Magistrate: High-quality legal contract templates for your small business

Hey everyone! Back in January, I released my side project, Magistrate (https://getmagistrate.com).

At the time, it was a simple API for signing contracts. It was pretty cool, reached #1 on Hacker News, and I ended up quitting my job to work on it full time. Magistrate has changed a lot since then, and I wanted to share what I’ve been building.

I’ve practiced corporate law for over 7 years at law firms, in-house, and even on my own as a solo practitioner. I’ve written software for almost 30 years. Magistrate is leveraging both of those experiences to address the unfairness that people can’t really use the legal system unless they work at a big company or have a lawyer on retainer.

We’re starting small, initially focused on providing fair, standard, common legal documents to small businesses. What YCombinator did for startup fundraising with the SAFE, we want to do for legal documents generally.

I plan to build in public since it’s a great way to get feedback on the product, which is especially critical because we’re a tiny team.
