Make explainer video for your product -- in less than 5 minutes

create explainer video in less than 5 min

I am working on a service that creates explainer videos. Just complete 6 sentences about your product and the service will create an explainer video. You can edit the script yourself.

It is FREE for fellow IH'ers, but please let me know what needs improving. And drop a line if you used it on your website - it'll help me going.

Thank you!!

This is great! I wouldn't use it now, because the graphics on video could look better but generally speaking this is a great concept. Super important for me is putting my logo + name with better font. Every business owner want this elements to look nice.
If you had this - probably I'd use it. More scenarios also could help

    1. 1

Good insight and makes a lot of sense. Thanks alot for your help!!

    2. 1

      I Agree,
      The concept is great!
The execution still needs improvement (but that's what the feedback is for 😉)

I won't mind to use it for a personal project, however, I wont use it for promoting the product in the company I'm working at

      1. 1

Thanks Naveh, can I ask what is the biggest problem is with the output? What bothers you the most? Thanks!

    3. 1

Also - it's super easy to use. Keep doing it this way :)
Imo you may treat this idea as validated with the market ;)

  2. 4

I love it, made an explainer video! Check it out: https://youtu.be/K9KTWOGs72E

    1. 2

You are hilarious - "...this can save my inbox, and my marriage!" :D :D :D
Baxter sounds like a great product!

    2. 1

Using this for my chrome web store listing!

      1. 2

Let me know if you need a higher resolution video - will be happy to build one for you. Thanks for checking it out and good luck with Baxter!

        1. 1

That would be awesome, actually, and I think the volume is a little low in the 'downloaded' video?

    1. 2

Thank you for checking it out. I took a liberty to match brand colors to Getscreen.me website. Let me know if/how it can be improved!

      1. 1

Cool, what primary color should I choose?

        1. 2

I already set them up for you (took those you used on your website). Check out updated https://animationkit.io/v/koghcm.mp4
          Thanks!

          1. 1

Thanks a lot, that's so much better!

  3. 3

Looks cool, Alex. I'll check it out. Are you charging other users for it yet? And how has the journey been to finding paying customers?

    1. 2

There is no monetization implemented... yes I'm admitting to the capital sin of coding founders - writing code before having a clear understanding how to monetize it. This should become my primary focus. I really appreciate any insight/advice!

      1. 2

        the Appsumo way?
Share of Subscriptions to the SaaS you list

        1. 1

Payment process is less concerning than a long-term customer acquisition strategy. Where do I source customer, how to promote, market... I need to build an audience (which I don't have now) :/

          1. 1

            The standard methods?

            1. Regular newsletter
            2. Work with listed SaaS to organize giveaways or deep discounts
            3. Give users space for short reviews and give badges on say getting 100 positive reviews, etc. Then give badges that SaaS can put up and share
            4. Highlight discovery, with Software of the day/ week, etc.
            5. SEO

You can always tune the base idea with interesting twists. All the best

            1. 1

              Good ideas, thanks Krishna!

  4. 3

This is really cool. I'll give it a shot and share feedback. It would be very impressive if it actually works.

    1. 3

It's incredibly cool. Have you launched it on show HN? It'll be a hit there.

I'm sure you can add screenshots or video snippets (screen recordings) later.

It seems to me like you've got yourself a startup friend :)

      1. 2

Thank you - a great suggestion. Good luck with your work as well - I really hope to have to need sabil.io one day!!

        1. 1

Hey, you checked out Sabil. Thanks for that, and ping me if the day comes when you need it. We'll take good care of a fellow IH-er 🎉.

    2. 1

Thank you, I would really appreciate a fresh eye on this. Depending on the day it looks either cool or complete garbage to me. Your input would really help. Thx!

  5. 2

Love the tool! Was looking for a cheap solution to create an intro video of my website this past few weeks.

Tried to create the video on mobile first, had some difficulties with the text being replaced. On my laptop everything worked fine and I was able to create the video in under 10 minutes.

Some things I was still missing (or couldn't find):

    1. Be able to keep the background music but disable the character voices
    2. Import my own images for popups
    1. 1

Thanks Chris, I really appreciate your insight - exactly what I need to continue. Do you mind if I ping you here once the improvements are made? Any way - thanks for detailed feedback!

      1. 1

Hey yes please! I would really appreciate it! I was planning on creating a more detailed video this week. I can give you more feedback after that probably

  6. 2

Fantastic. I like it. I think you need to find a very strong designer to be your partner.

    1. 1

Thank you. Can I ask what would bother you about it? UX or the quality of the video? Or both :D Let me know if you get a chance. Thx

      1. 1

Your promise was a short introductory video in a few minutes. You absolutely exceeded that in my case and made me smile. Great work.

The current design would not fit visually on our website. I think it would be good to have at least 3 different design worlds to choose from. The more professional and appealing they are, the more willing I would be to place a onetime payment.

A nicer UI would be cool, but the output of the video is much more important than that.

Maybe a retro look like gather town could be one design world.

        1. 1

Oh, what I just have in mind. It would be great if I could send my version as a link, so that my colleague can also play around with it. I think something like that would help with the promotion.

          1. 1

Stefan, this extremely helpful and comprehensive. Thank you for spending time to write it up. Do you mind if I ping you again when in the future I improve on your recommendations?

            1. 1

Perfect. I am very glad that my thoughts are helpful to you. Sure anytime.

  7. 2

What a lovely and simple tool, I really dig it!

I will take some time later or tomorrow to give you more feedback but just one thing I noticed right away: The text is sometimes not fitting into the screen. It was cut off a bit at the end so some text-wrapping would be good I think :)

    Overall this is awesome!

    1. 2

Super. Thanks for pointing out - I stopped noticing these things after a while :/ This is really helpful - let me know if you bump into anything else. Thanks again!

  8. 2

Really liked this! Very simple to use. The download doesn't seem to work though

    1. 1

Thank you. Server was a bit busy, it is working now. Can I ask if there is anything you would change/improve? Thx!

      1. 1

The colors could use more life but I think its a pretty good start. Definitely would recommend for its simplicity and quick results

        1. 1

          Great, thanks Ashrey!

  9. 2

Great idea, lots of potentials, and space for iterative improvement.
I found the UI clear and quite fun to use, excellent work.

    1. 1

Hey Luciano, really appreciate the feedback. Which area do you think needs work first? Is it UI or quality/richness of the video?

  10. 2

Looks awesome. More customisation and scenario options would be amazing.

    1. 1

Yeah, that is what I'm thinking... Do you think the video quality/dynamics is sufficient?

  11. 2

interesting! but I wouldn't use it since the people in the videos do not look like my users. With a lot of iterations and more customization it could be really useful.

    1. 1

Hey Dash, thank you for observation! It would really help if you clarified - is your concern with variety of characters, style or quality of graphics? Thanks!

      1. 1

when you say "variety of characters" do you mean there was a way to change the characters? I didn't see that. But my users are usually younger, not super professional looking, influencers, only fans creators, twitch streamers, etc. I don't think they would relate to this cartoon.

  12. 2

Yeah, not too bad, I just tried this with SaaSHub and... well, I wouldn't promote it with this video. Yet, I'd say it was great for an auto-generated one. The most annoying part to me was the pronunciation of "SaaSHub" 🙈.

If you submit https://animationkit.io/ on SaaSHub, I can get it on our SaaS Tribune weekly newsletter - just ping me back.

Anyways, keep up the good work.

    1. 1

Hey Stan, I really appreciate the feedback!!

I took a liberty to fix SaasHub pronunciation (an undocumented feature for now), adjust brand colors and add SaaSHub logo. This is what it looks like now: https://animationkit.io/v/i3hnrc.mp4 Let me know if something else is off, or you want to play more - i'll send the account info.

Anyway, I'd really appreciate a word on SaasHub. I registered and submitted product for approval.

Thank you and good luck with SaaSHub

  13. 2

Is there any way to make the background color dark? It would fit my website www.getfullanalytics.com as it uses dark mode only. Cheers, mate.

    1. 1

Hey Alfon, it is on my todo list. Do you mind if I ping you when it is ready? I'll get the getfullanalytics.com logo/colors fitted as well.

      1. 1

Of course, mate, reply to this comment when you shipped it, and I'll check it out again ;-)

          1. 2

I'm lovin' it! In the long term, after you have matured AnimationKit, you could have an API to generate on-demand videos, so it could generate dynamical scripts by making an HTTP request (e.g. https://api.animationkit.io/story/123/generate?var_product_name=ACME).

This would allow me to have Matthew says: FullAnalytics is better than {{ product_name }} because XYZ and generate 100's videos for the typical pages of SaaS products where they compare their service with a competitor. I would do it for my product at this URL (it's empty atm btw). You could cache them behind Cloudflare CDN and the cost would be minimal.

P.S. I don't need 100's videos, and it is OK for me to do it manually. Just giving you food for thought.

            1. 2

Interesting. I'll keep it in mind!!!

              1. 1

Last feedback ( I need to go back to work on getfullanalytics.com 😂): you could charge a monthly subscription for the API users and a one-time fee for those who just want to download the .mp4 file. So you have two income streams.

        1. 1

btw you're on something with animationkit.io! good job.

  14. 2

Love it. Do you have any specific sector you want to hit? Thinking that it may help teacher to create educational videos easily.

    1. 1

It is remarkable how you noticed it! The original idea came from struggles to produce engaging educational materials for elementary-middle school. Yet from what I know the educational software market is heavily saturated. Not even sure how to approach it...

      1. 1

XD, I worked in K12 sector before but in Hong Kong. I am thinking this may works well in language learning or simple maths concept illustation. If you would like to explore on this together, let's connect!

P.S. I am currently in UK.

  15. 2

    Fascinating product, really impressive!

    1. 1

Thank you. Can I ask a hypothetical... if you were to use it for your products, what would you ask to change/improve? Thx!
Also, love your tagline :) :)

      1. 1

        Thank you 🤗

What would I change? That's a great question...

I think it would be related to branding. Having the capacity to get smth that matches the colors and style of my brand.

  16. 2

This is so cool, Alex. I just gave it a shot for my product. Only thing I'd love is if the voice could have more humane aspect attached to it as at the moment it feels robotic :)

But that's only if I have to nitpick. An awesome product this is :)

    1. 1

Thank you, really appreciate the sentiment. I reserve the right to ping you once the improvements are made :) Thanks again!

  17. 2

This is really cool! I wish I could pick a scenario where there is a whiteboard at the back. I could provide the script (for audio) and images/video to be displayed/projected on the whiteboard. And flood YT with my tutorial vids ;-)

    1. 1

Hey Cao, thank you for the feedback - this is very interesting. I really want to look into it. Do you have video examples of what it might look like? Or a sketch? Something similar on YT or anywhere else?

      1. 1

I would like if you retain your style of videos that works. Maybe you can do a A/B test. You can generate revenue by selling Ad space within the generated videos. And a paid plan without ads.

  18. 2

    Congratulations, lovely tool!

    1. 1

Thank you GC! Any suggestions on what could use improvement? I spent so much time looking at it I no longer see usability/quality issues :/

  19. 2

Awesome! A suggestion the voice is very robotic. Do give it a try and use AWS Polly for lifelike voices. I used it for a couple of projects and it worked fine. Additionally, it is pay-as-you-go.

    1. 1

Oh, that's excellent. Thank you! If you know of any other quality TTS engines please let me know. Thanks!

  20. 2

This is quite awesome. Used this on mobile, and it wasn’t too bad tbh. However, couldn’t download the video, or at least it took too long for the ”server to free up” as I had only a couple of minutes to wait for it. Keep up the good work, will try this again on desktop!

    1. 1

Thank you! Server was a bit busy, I had to beef it up. It is working now. Would you say the quality of picture/animation is acceptable? Anything is needs improvement? My eye is already sore from looking at it :/ Thanks!

  21. 2

This is great. This will work very good for my products. https://www.piscinastoi.com/

    1. 1

The scripts are only in English?

      1. 1

Hey Emery, It is only english for now. But I will add Spanish soon (I assume you need Spanish from piscinastoi.com). Thanks for checking it out!

        1. 2

That it. Thank you for your reply!

  22. 2

It was not easy to figure out how to edit the script. Also you might want to provide multiple alternative scenarios for users to choose from. Other than that - very interesting.

    1. 2

I agree. Maybe add drag and drop to make editing more intuitive?

      1. 1

I'm somewhat concerned about d-n-d usability on mobile devices. It would be nice to see how something similar is implemented on mobile. Thanks for suggestions!

  23. 2

This is amazing! A bit more customization can make it superb.

    1. 1

Great. Let me know if you have any specifics in mind. Thank you for checking it out!

  24. 1

    good and needed idea!

  25. 1

This is really cool. I wonder it you could add GPT-3 as a layer to help customers develop their idea while creating an explainer. Bravo on your work!

    1. 1

Thank you. This is an interesting idea! I hope to get to it once clean the plate a little. Thanks again!

      1. 2

Sure thing 👍🏼 could be a double explainer. Explains your own business to you (for clarity) while you generate an explainer for customers.

        1. 1

          Very cool idea. Thanks!!

  26. 1

I tried creating a video which was fairly easy. A like the voices, robot-ish!

    1. 1

Thanks for checking it out, it means alot. So you saying robot-ish voices jumped at you first, right?

  27. 1

I think you're really onto something. Obviously, there is a ton of work before the tool is able to generate videos that are professional enough for a marketing team to use.

And by that, I mean years of iterations. But I can see a clear path to getting there eventually.

I wouldn't worry about monetization at this point. Just focus on generating great videos. If the output is good enough, you'll be able to charge a few hundred dollars for a download without a watermark.

    Good luck!

    1. 1

Thank you for the advise. I'll keep going in that direction. As for the first thing to focus on, can I ask what you think is the most jarring problem (animation, audio, ...?). Thanks for insight!!

  28. 1

looks awesome bro, huge potential. Best wishes 😍

    1. 2

Thanks man, I really appreciate it.

  29. 1

Outstanding! Great tool and concept to help startups get explainers in minutes without having to piece them together. Looking forward to watching this evolve.

    1. 1

Thank you. Please take notes as you are trying it, I hope to discuss later!

  30. 1

Wanted to try the product but kept running into this error - Sorry, our bad... Failed to load SoundResource:speach_49CFFAB7_4A9664C7_Noyouneedw

    1. 1

Thanks Abhishek. I'll be digging thru the logs to see what happened. If you don't mind I'll reach out again when everything all is working. Thanks again!

      1. 1

Happy to give it a try when it is ready. Please do reach out

  31. 1

If you can simplify adding the scripts simpler and ease the workflow, plus refine the voices, this would be great

    1. 1

Thanks Kushal. Can I ask what part of workflow did you find confusing (I spent so much time looking at it - I can no longer see clearly) :/

  32. 1

    This was good.
Tried to create a video but there are some feedbacks!

    1. The UI can be improved. Was difficult to find where is the content for script
    2. From last 10 minutes I am getting Ready to build Waiting for server to free up... when downloading video. This needs a lot of improvement.

Congratulations and best of luck !

    1. 1

Thanks Ashutosh, I really appreciate your feedback!!

The server has been upgraded to better handle the workload now. Other than that can I ask if you tried it on mobile or desktop? Additionally, was it clear how to add/remove commands? ...I'm struggling with that.

      Thanks again!

      1. 1

        @javadiagrams I tried in desktop.
I mean it was easy for me to see the script and change the logos and other stuffs, but won't be easy for other people.
Also still the quality is not very good after downloading :)
        Thanks

        1. 1

Yeah, I got it. Thank you for the feedback!

  33. 1

Voices are pretty good for tts. Where are they from?

    1. 1

The two default voices are from AWS. Hope they will get even better overtime!

  34. 1

This is cool. Can I upload my own product logo?

    1. 1

Thanks for checking it out. You should be able to use your own logo along with the title. Where would you like to see it?

      1. 1

Maybe put it permanently in the corner somewhere, but the title might be sufficient. I will try.
