For me, working on the non-English side-project, I can't really do the validation of the idea without investing money. So it's a lack of communities where I could share the idea and get the feedback.
Also moneywise, as I'm from a somewhat poor country, I will earn less money in dollars, comparing to if I started working on an international level.
From the positive side, the local market is not that crowded and it much easier to come up with a good project idea and bootstrap it to something significant.
I'm from Brazil.
The bad part:
-- Low purchasing power compared to the English market
-- Fewer directories to list your startup to gain traffic/backlinks
-- Very hard to get backlinks overall
The good part:
-- Low competition. Almost every niche is winnable, the quality of the apps/SaaS is low
-- Low competition on SERPs, there's a lot of high volume SERPs with less than 5 of difficulty(accordingly to Ahrefs)
-- Easier and cheap to hire people
You should try to discover where makers in your country are hanging. For us is in telegram and FB groups as far as I know.
Thanks for the reply!
I agree that I need to look for the directories where other startup folks hanging.
In general, my decision is to 'practice' before going international as as you mentioned, it's much easier on SEO and a lot easier to come up with the niche.
