Man, do I hate the star rating system on Amazon.
It is a pain, especially the first review can be pretty hurtful if it is a 3-star or less even when the review itself is pretty ok. But the algo and the other customers see it as bad and move on. And your product dies. No matter how many sales it did have before.
Just seems to happen again with one book of my coloring books experiment. Got a 3-star with ok comment and now it can't compete with the rest and has stopped selling. It sold good, which makes it even more frustrating now.
Meanwhile I come to the conclusion that publishing on other peoples platforms is a bad decision, at least if you think longterm. No matter what you sell.

Stars are though for sure, but you do mention that your book sells before that 3-star review. Have you tried to ask those users to write a review? (Leaving a note in your coloring book or something similar?)
I hope you find a way to distribute your books without those stars blocking your path!
Thanks. I do not have a note about reviews in the book but one for posting their colored images on Instagram. Also collected a tiny following there and posted + dm for reviews. Despite getting "sure, will do" no results so far.
