Market Research tactics
Hey hackers. How do you go about validating your ideas and doing market research?
I have some ideas, but I’m looking to be sensitive to my time by not starting to build before feeling confident that I’m solving a real problem.
So I’m interested in specific tactics and resources you use to gather signal around your ideas.
Email 100 people you think would buy your product. Get them on the phone. read "The Mom Test" and ask them about the problem you're solving.
I use streak, it's free for 1 person to use, to manage a pipeline of outreach. Hunter.io has a free version to find emails. LinkedIn as a free tier.
If you can't get 10 responses to your emails, then it's probably not a really "hair on fire" problem, or your messaging is wrong.
If you do get 10 people on the phone. see how many buy. If any want to buy it, let them pre pay.
If you got 10% sales of 10% of your outreach... outreach to 100 more.

Or in short Sell it before you build it, or at least get as close to that as possible, get them to click a buy button with a price and then just tell them thanks and the story without actually charging.
(or presell with kickstarter and similar)

Yeah I did run into javelin a couple of months ago, seemed interesting. I created an account but a lot of stuff seemed to be WIP.
Again, if last change notes are from May, that's 6 months ago. Long enough to say they are not working on it :)
While I'd usually take you side on this, I did follow this guy for a while and it seems like he tends to produce like 6/12 month bursts...
Like a waterfall methodology.
IDK, I envy products that can be just produced and kept without consent never ending versions. Things that don't expire fast due to a 3rd party...
Anyways, give it ago if it seems to provide some value for you.
