There's generally two methods - bottom up, or top down.

With top down, you may be able to find a report or something that specifies the number of companies in your target market. From there, you can reduce it down by different parameters (e.g. if you're targeting larger enterprise within the sector, it's likely to be something like 5% of that total figure).

Another way is bottom up. e.g. Find out how many companies are within your target market in a particular city, and scale from there.
