Marketers, how do you find the right co-marketing partner?

Recently I started to think about co-marketing and start searching for a proper brand with which I can connect to present our products together and it turns out that it is a tough job which is time-consuming, take a lot of efforts to present your idea, goals, etc.

So, I would like to ask you:

  1. Have you already use this kind of collaboration in your marketing campaigns?
  2. How do you connect to other brands and present your ideas for partnership?
  3. How do you choose to which business to offer a partnership?

Don`t you think it would be great if there is a co-marketing platform, where everyone interested in co-marketing can register and share their business background, story, interested, requirements, etc? In this way you can save a lot of time because with only one click you can judge is this company a suitable for your needs and expand the reach of your products/services with partnership marketing. Also, you can easily create connections for future campaigns and share your past co-marketing partner and results.

The platform will save a lot of time by matching you with co-marketers with a similar impact like yours. By bringing together the top minds in one place, where you can find out your counterpart for your business and both of you to ascend the brand to a level of success not previously seen through solo efforts.

I would be glad if you share what do you think about that kind of marketing platform? Do you think it will be useful?

Thank you in advance!

Here's the best path (in my experience) to developing co-marketing opportunities for your business:

First, identify other businesses (companies, agencies, individuals, whatever) who also serve your very same, very specific target customer.

    The ideal co-marketing business will:

    • Be complementary to your business, not competitive. For obvious reasons.
    • Represent an equitable exchange of value. Usually this means finding businesses at a similar stage of growth as you -- they'll have the same growth needs & challenges as you, and you'll both have similar resources to bring to the exchange of value.

Equitable exchanges don't have to be between similarly-sized businesses, though. Years ago I led product at a small startup that landed a huge co-marketing partnership with NVIDIA. NVIDIA was basically exchanging its huge marketing resources for our unique (video enhancement) technology, which was a perfect showcase for new video processing features they were pushing at the time. It was a fair and equitable trade!

In terms of connecting, just reach out with your proposal. Outline why you think there's a good fit.

A platform for finding co-marketing partners? It feels like a solution in search of a problem. For the reasons listed above, it'd have to have relatively huge scale of adoption to be at all useful. And most businesses (I would hope) are familiar enough with their target customers' preferred vendors/products/service providers to identify the obvious co-marketing partners. (If not, there's something broken in their approach to their markets, and a platform of co-marketing partners isn't going to fix that.)

    @mivanova

    I haven't done this personally.

But if I could suggest a company/brand that does this type of Co-Marketing thing you are talking about, and does it all the time, the Zapier comes to mind.

As they do this co-marketing initiatives literally with every new integration they do, and I know they have already developed a sort of SOP or Template to do this.

Listen to this podcast, as I think they founder talks about that in there...
