Marketing courses have a 90% dropout rate. I built the fix and made it free.

It started with my wife.

She wanted to switch to a marketing career. She signed up for courses, the popular ones everyone recommends. Paid for one, got free trials for others. Within two weeks she was done. Not done learning. Done trying.

"It's just a guy talking over slides for hours. I can't stay focused." She wasn't wrong. The courses were basically podcasts with a $500 price tag.

I looked at the data. Online course completion rates are around 5-15%. That's not a student problem. That's a product problem.

So I asked: what if marketing education worked like practice, not a lecture?

I spent months building Markampus, a completely free platform that teaches digital marketing through interactive micro-lessons. No videos. No instructor talking at you. You read a concept, immediately practice it, and get instant feedback.

Every lesson is 5-10 minutes. You answer questions, work through real-world marketing scenarios, and build actual skills instead of just passive knowledge.

What it covers:

  • 9 career paths: SEO, Google Ads, Meta Ads, Email Marketing, Social Media, Content Marketing, Copywriting, E-Commerce Marketing, Growth Marketing

  • 195 interactive lessons organized into structured learning paths

  • Hands-on drills that test you on real marketing decisions

  • XP system, daily streaks, achievements, and certifications

  • Built for complete beginners and career changers

Why free?

The lessons will always be free. The plan is to eventually add premium career-focused features: marketing tool simulations, interview prep, portfolio builders, job board, things that help you actually land the job after you learn the skills. Think of it as a marketing learners hub, not just a course.

But right now, none of that exists yet. Right now it's just the lessons. And I need to know if the lessons are good enough before I build anything else.

Where I am right now:

The platform is live. The product works. I need real people to try it, break it, and tell me what's working and what's not.

What I need from you:

  1. Try one lesson. Just one. It takes 5 minutes: markampus.com

  2. Tell me honestly: did you learn something? Was it boring? Confusing? Too easy?

  3. If you've ever tried to learn marketing and gave up, I want to hear why. That's the exact problem I'm solving.

Happy to answer anything about the build or why I'm doing this for free. AMA.

The "practice not lecture" framing is exactly

right. I'm a doctor who taught myself to code

and ship apps over the past year — zero CS

    background.

Every time I tried a course I'd drop off after

week two. What actually worked was building

something real and Googling every problem as

it came up. Forced practice, not passive watching.

That's exactly the insight that pushed me to build this. The "learn by doing" approach works because your brain can't be lazy. When you have to pick the right Google Ads bidding strategy or identify what's wrong with a landing page, you're actually thinking, not just nodding along to a video.

Curious, as someone who went through that self-taught journey: if a platform like this existed for coding when you started, would you have used it? Or was the "build something real" path better for you?

Also, did you get a chance to try a lesson? Would love feedback from someone who's been on both sides of the "courses don't work" problem.
