Marketing is not your Sales Department

Marketing is not your Sales Department.

10 years in the marketing sector, and I could say +80% of business owners I interacted with think marketing is the only department responsible for sales.

They overlook the Customer Service and Sales Departments.

  1. What are your sales reps doing to close those deals?
  2. Does your team follow up properly?
  3. What is your company doing regarding customer service?

From my point of view, marketing is responsible for delivering traffic to your site/funnel. Not direct sales.

I saw that some clients of mine combine the two departments (Marketing and Sales) and create a Growth department. This is a good idea because something Marketing and Sales weren't talking together and working independently.

In this scenario, they have one C-level manager who has experience with marketing and Sales. He / She can combine knowledge from these two sectors into one and create a perfect customer experience through the whole journey from a visit to the customer.

Totally agree. At the end is delivering a great customer experience.

Nevertheless, many business owners think, and I’ll drop an example, that they don’t need a Marketing team, just a community manager.

They think this community manager needs to close sales, that if their leads are not converting is because of the CM.

One suggestion is that if you’re an agency owner or a freelancer, before onboarding the client, educate them.

Education will lead to reduce friction. That worked for me.

That's true. In my experience, it's better to work only with middle or big-sized companies. In small companies, many people wear many hats, and it's challenging to create a good journey for customers and the business.
