I recently read the book "Start Small, Stay Small" and in there it recommended before getting to code, throwing up a simple website to capture emails to validate the idea.
I did this and I've had it up for about three months, and I've tried to drive some traffic there with low budget google ads. I've had only 75 clicks and 2930 impressions so far, and no signups.
This is my first attempt at anything like this, I'm a developer and I had one or two classes while I was getting my degree that dealt with ecommerce and marketing, so my skill and knowledge certainly lack in this area.
What should I do next? I don't have a huge budget to pour into google ads, but if thats the solution I certainly could come up with some more money.
Maybe some background on the business idea will be helpful here too.
It's an app for small in home daycare to help the manage things and take payments. It has five main features: Auto Payments, Online/E paperwork, Photo/file sharing and messaging. The website goes into more details https://www.teensybit.com
There are other apps out there like this that share most of these features and even have more features, but they are aimed at larger daycares and are generally too expensive for a small, eight child daycare, so this one is aimed at keeping the features simple and the price low (which I know goes against what that books says and is common among advice for bootstrapped solo founders).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Howdy! :o) Some initial observations:
Having a button saying "SIgn Up For Emails" isn't going to work. No-one is going to click that. What will the emails be? Why are they of value? Look at other websites, you're offered a quick description with a compelling reason, plus a no spam assurance, and an attractive form in the sidebar. Do that.
The website gets into features really quickly, but your visitor might prefer a little more story first. Demonstrate that you understand their pain and challenges, so that they begin to resonate with your product's message. After that, become the guide that can help them become better, through use of your product.
The icons are functional, but they're not going to inspire any emotional connect. They remind me of Google Docs. The app is to do with daycare, but there are no people anywhere on the page. Having blatantly irrelevant stock photos won't work, but can you find an image of someone doing a related task on Unsplash or similar?
Work on your value proposition. Your headline is a functional description of the app, but if you had to describe the value of the offering is 6 to 10 words, what would they be?
