Marketing tips for macOS/iOS productivity app?

Hey community!

I'm running https://noteplan.co since 3 years now and I was getting a boost by Apple initially through the Mac AppStore (last year) which enabled me to do this full time. Now the visibility on the Mac AppStore slowly decreases and I'm pushing more to get revenue through the website instead, which makes me more independent from the Mac AppStore changes.

Now I'm wondering what exactly I could do as a process (not a one-time thing preferably) to consistently increase traffic or conversation rates? I have improved the landing page over time and tried paid marketing (sponsorships), but they don't convert really well.

Should I reach out to my users more often to share updates through email and twitter for example?

Any tips?

I love NotePlan, use it daily.

I was in a similiar situation with my app FocusList, which is just the old "pomodoro timer" idea, same as 100s of other apps.

But somehow I was pretty succesful with it - here's a review from MacStories, and one that brought most customers was just a mention in a Trello blog post.

So anyway, another thing I tried was building a free app and putting tiny ads in that. It's a combination of SEO/freemium/ads.

I don't really work on these apps anymore, but I would still like to talk to you and discuss what worked for us. I'm emailing you. ;) Marketing is really hard for over-saturated market such as productivity apps, but I think you have a really unique idea there.

You just need to get people to discover it.

Have you had an y intimate one on one chats with some of your users? You might need to dig into distinguishing who does what with your APP. Segment them and see who or where you can captilaize and focus on.

I had interviews with multiple users and tons of emails. I have a relatively good idea who those people are, but what means "captilaize and focus on" in practice? For example small business owners is a group.

The best way to get ore traction would be to get on lists like "Top Mac Applications to Boost Your Productivity", a lot of these bloggers would be happy to add your product to their existing post if they see a fit.

Will try that and send some pitches!

You can also do YouTube Ads with your product features and results that it brings while targeting people using only Macbooks.

You mean like a video ad or text ad?
