Marketing tips for small companies and startups

If you are a small company or a startup, you have to do everything you can to find new customers. That's what marketing is for. But what marketing to choose if you don't have the budget for a separate marketer and/or content writer?

First of all, we're going to focus on inbound marketing.

Why?
Because you don't yet have a name and a reputation for getting clients to find you through outbound. And at first, you can and should cover your company's needs.

Here's a list of means by which you can start building inbound marketing from day one of your venture:

  1. Quora - even though it's a hackneyed topic, Quora is still a good source of traffic and a platform where you can show off your expertise. Look for profile spaces, share your knowledge, and sell nothing;

Here on my profile, you can see that with not posting very often, it's pretty easy to achieve 13k views per month.

  1. Twitter and LinkedIn are some of the best platforms for reinforcing a company's brand. The biggest key to success is unselfishly sharing valuable knowledge. Build a network of interested people, offer your help pro bono;

A little observation — Twitter is more popular in the USA, while LinkedIn is more popular in Europe.

  1. Guest articles. Many platforms and websites don't mind good content on their platforms. Look for niche platforms, offer your services (especially through the lens of your services/product);
  2. Communities. Sharing knowledge in LinkedIn, Slack, and Facebook communities can help you find new partners and like-minded people who will want to help you promote your company and may even become your advocates.

I hope this article was helpful to you.

    If you aIf you have an expertise, it can also be useful to show yourself as a founder and talk about it.
    Besides your own channels, as mentioned in this great article, you should also try to offer interviews in addition to guest articles, for example. This can be Linkedin, Instagram or even Youtube live videos, but also podcasts.
    For this, you have to be an interesting interlocutor in any case, so that the host also gets something out of it.

    Another option is active networking to get in touch with other people in your industry. For this, you can visit industry events or meetups, for example. Often good contacts can be found here, which also support each other.

    ❤️ Quora and not just for sharing your expertise and trying to gain traction, but another good use case is also as an idea generator for blog content on your own website. And with their ads program you can easily target your answers to the people that are looking for it and isn’t that what content marketing is all about?

    Just solving the same problems that your product or service solves only through media that you create and promote?

    If you’re interested I’ve got an entire in-depth piece online that covers everything, from creating your profile to finding the best questions to answer, running ads etc. Curious what you think about it 👉 https://usergrowth.io/blog/quora-marketing/
