Matt Studdert takes the leap from side project to full-time

Taking the leap to full-time. Side hustles are on the rise and that's exactly what Frontend Mentor was for @mattts. But now, he's going all-in. Here's why he played it safe until now:

I misguidedly started building a fitness app. I didn't validate it or build a potential customer list. I got seriously frustrated with myself and abandoned it after eight months. But it was during that time that I read all these incredible stories of people launching fast and focusing on sustainable businesses.

I decided I wanted to launch something quickly, so I put out a resource list for front-end developers. And that set the ball rolling for Frontend Mentor.

It's been hard juggling contract work and Frontend Mentor work, especially since the community has started growing at a faster pace. But it's so much less stressful than going full-time before you've got the revenue to support yourself.

It takes longer, so you have to keep chipping away at it day after day. And you've got to celebrate the small wins as if they're huge achievements. My girlfriend and I went out for a meal after I made my first five dollar sale. It keeps you motivated.

I finally went full-time a couple of weeks ago and it feels amazing to know that I'm going to wake up every day and do the exact work I want to do. I love every minute of it.

To be honest, going full-time is probably overdue. I could have made the jump earlier and ramped up faster. But since I've been cautious, I'm not feeling the sense of dread that I probably would have felt if I'd made the switch earlier.
