Measuring Developer Productivity

Hi, this is J. Darío, entrepreneur for Spain. I submitted an idea to startup school (Y Combinator) and got admitted in the last massive batch. I decided to put aside some time and work as a solo founder on 🔬Scope.

I am writing here not only to introduce myself, but also to:

  1. Introduce you to the prerelease of the tool https://jsdario.github.io/scope. It's still free and i think it can be very helpful
  2. Introduce you to the concept of measuring developer output, given the nature of many indie hackers as technologists. I have written a post and have not yet shared it on social networks other than here and startup school forum.

  3. Ask for help! I'd need to hold a few user interviews. If you like the idea or the product, please reach me through a DM on twitter @jsdariorivera. It'd be super helpful

Thanks a lot for your time :)

J.

Interesting concept. I'd like to see it in action, however, I don't actually use GitHub all that often. I normally use BitBucket since they offer unlimited private repos.

Side note, that's awesome you made it in. Congrats! Best of luck.

Thanks a lot for your comment. Did you have a chance to take a look at the article? It lays out the use cases that worked for us https://medium.com/@jsdario/measure-a-developers-impact-e2e18593ac79

I sure did. I thought it was going to be some sort of time tracking app. Looks like you are putting a lot of thought into this. I'm not sure if I missed it, but are you planning on monetizing app?

Looking forward in reviewing the post on, " how to transform qualitative observations into quantitative values."

Thanks for you observations. I'm doing my best.

I'd like to establish a SaaS and charging for number of contributors / repos analyzed. Write now it's just front-end, but crunching big numbers will require servers. Also for unlocking things as GitHub or GitLab enterprise.

As I think of it right now:

          • Should be free for open source projects
          • Should charge little for private repos or teams <= 4 members
          • Should increasingly charge from that point on
          • Special deals with enterprise clients

This could save lots of time and headaches to C-Levels in software companies.

As a plan B I plan to do some consultancy.

For the second post matters, I should start working on it next week.
