Meta-Audience Building, a la Startup Podcast?

Many people document their startup journeys here, in a community of other indie-hackers. Has anyone tried documenting their journey externally with their audience to help build early traction? Any success?

The Startup podcast comes to mind, where Alex Blumberg made a podcast about building his podcast company, Gimlet. As I listened to Startup, I became more intrigued about Gimlet.

I've got a YouTube channel focused on developers, and I'm developing a YouTube creator platform. It seems like I might get some early adopters who already are engaging with my personality.
