Metrics following the release of my e-book, "Building an Effective Dev Portfolio"

Hi folks!

Last week I released a free 70-page e-book about developer portfolios.

The idea for this book started months ago; I volunteered to review junior-dev portfolios on twitter, and got hundreds of submissions. I found I was saying the same things over and over again.

I also teach at a local bootcamp, and I've coached recent graduates, so I've learned quite a bit about what the market is like four first-time job hunters.

Over the course of a few months, I put everything I knew into a book. I decided to make it free; I didn't like the idea of charging folks who haven't yet gotten a high paying tech job. I'm working on other stuff, aimed at a more senior audience, so my primary goal was to build good will; my hope is that in a few months, many of the people who read my book we'll be happy to start paying to keep learning from me.

I just posted all of the metrics on twitter, including traffic, downloads, subscribers, and marketing stuff. Check it out here: https://twitter.com/JoshWComeau/status/1305863024171941888

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Congrats! What do you think were the top 3 biggest contributing factors to you getting 17.4 followers on Twitter?

    1. 1
      1. Sharing what I learn, or what I know. 10k to 17k happened pretty quickly because I started sharing neat web-dev tricks like this one.
      2. Launching stuff! I gained about 300 in the last week because of this book launch, and I used to release a lot of OSS / random-side-project stuff that did alright.
      3. Being helpful, replying to questions, being an active participant on the platform.

Due to a medical issue, I'm not able to use computers too much right now, so it's slowed quite a bit, but I feel pretty confident that I could keep growing at a good pace if I invested the time.
