Mi first landing page! What do you think?

Hello indie hackers,

This is my first landing page and my first product. I've been looking at some landing pages for inspiration, what do you think?

Any feedback/tips would be much appreciated!

Here's the landing page: https://searchforme.app

All these comments are good! Follow them if you can. My suggestion is just make it a bit more colourful.

I kinda get it, not sure when I'd use it, unless I have a PDF of like full books or something large... 20+ - 200
I think I'm too prouding myself with finding stuff fast in text that the writing a question and looking at the spiny wheel... also why would I search the specific PDF and not google? is it for students / research?..
As I said at the start, I kinda get what it is, but not why I'd want it / use it.. (could be either personally me not being the target, or needing some inspiration with actual use cases on the page)

It's a "scratch your own itch" thing. I am a researcher, and for researchers, the place where you take the information is as important as the information.

The thing is... when I read lots of papers, more often than not, I lose track of where I read something. So I made this app for myself. Although I think people other than researchers can benefit from it (anyone that needs to utilize specific information sources), that is why I didn't point it out on the landing page (previously the app was called "Research assistant").

Maybe the landing page is too vague and I could use a use case or two, thank you for the feedback! I will be looking for this kind of reactions on my target users!

        • I'd say it's a huge difference as a user looking at this if this searches within a single PDF or if it can search across a collection of PDFs as you mention your use case.
        • Put a few use cases in as samples give a real taste (or refocus on just the one)

You're right. I didn't mention multiple files because the machine learning pipeline is not ready yet and I couldn't record a video of it.

Although "multiple pdfs" search is the real objective of the app, I released the "one pdf" version to get early feedback while working on that. Now I'm thinking that is best to pause the "launch" until I can promote the "multiple pdfs" version.

Thank you hatkyinc, you have been very helpful!

In a way I don't want to go against the launch early, but does a single PDF search solve a problem for someone?
The multi PDF is way more clear for me as you mentioned in research, but than you might get dragged into the file collection management part as well... Hopefully you can reuse something like a Google docs directory/tag in place of a dedicated file management feature.. well maybe...

To be honest, It was on the back of my mind that the value of a multiple pdf search is substantially bigger than single pdf, and therefore no less than that should be the MVP.
But I convinced myself to release the one pdf version as a data-collecting device for other features/bugs and to learn how to do landing pages, beta testing, etc.

Now that you (an outsider to the project) have told me that you too recognize the multiple pdf search potential value, I can't ignore it anymore. I'll do my best to achieve multiple pdf search in the least amount of time. In the meantime, I'll keep asking for feedback.

              Thank you hatkyinc.

Woah this is an awesome product! Some general thoughts:

    • Really like the video overview. Didn't click for me until I watched that.
    • There is some awkward phrasing in a few places. For example, "Ask directly to the developer" can just be "Ask the developer directly!"
    • General style is very understated which is what you might be going for. Perhaps a bit more uniqueness or flavor in the form of colors / fonts / layouts would help?

    Good luck!

Thank you parhelion for the feedback! And I'm glad that you liked the video.

About your second bullet point, if you have the time, could you tell me what other places had awkward phrasing? I'm not a native English speaker (obviously) and sometimes I can't catch those details.

If not, you already have been very helpful! Thank you again!
