Anyone intersted in using an MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) API
Fighter name: Conor McGregor Record: 21 wins / 4 losses Organization: UFC Next Fight: 1/18/2020 Etc.
I like this idea. I was actually interested in making something like this two years ago during FIFA World Cup but didn't follow through.
It's a good starting point and later on you can expand into other sports and provide much deeper data and stats.
I wouldn't use it "personally", but your potential market will be:
A company called Opta Sports does this. But it's very expensive for small developers and they don't have an MMA api.
Check out their twitter: https://twitter.com/OptaJoe. They post interesting trivia. Probably you can start marketing your app in a similar manner.
A great idea but very niche!
Targeting the right audience "might" fetch you good results.
I suggest you look at a broader picture covering various sports.
Yes! A few years ago I got really into baseball analytics and being a long-time MMA fan I was interested in trying to create some metrics about fighters. At the time, I was only able to find one actual UFC API but it wasn't great.
Using Google, it seems like a few have popped up since then but I haven't tried any of them. I think there is definitely a use-case for a great MMA API.
@MattDrake for the most part this is the need that has come up most. Are the analytics for fun or for betting? Would you pay a small monthly subscription fee for this say $10 per month?
I was interested in writing 538-style MMA articles, but I think a good API would serve both types of customer. I'm not in the market for this anymore, but at the time I would gladly have paid that (or more) for a quality data API.
Hmm What would I use it for?
All records are on Sherdog or Wiki so I can look them up if required.
But can't think of a systemic use where this info would be useful outside of MMA news sites.
