Bit late to the show today, but that's only because I got into the code very early and went a little ham on it for the remainder. I set aside some client work in favor of AutomatedAPI stuff today so I could get it to a point where I can iterate effectively.

    DONE:

    • Fully implemented all prototyped functionality for AA into the new architecture and restored full functionality as previously developed with a significant speed boost. This puts me on a footing to get customer in the door probably by end of month if I do the things that don't scale. Guess it's time to start warming up that interest list I've been neglecting.

Found some interesting changes to the APIs and the Azure platform that were a huge headache to work around but I finally figured those out after hours of keyboard pounding. I'll definitely be sharing that out into the world, no developer should have to deal with that bit of outdated documentation and API development.

KUDOS: @nlowell welcome to the crowd, I may have missed your real first posting:P, stowbots looks pretty slick. I like the idea. Sorting the ol' image library is a pain in ass and I never actually finish. I dig it.

Congratulations! What's your ad strategy on Reddit?

      1. 1

I'm running a couple different ads already, targeting a large swath of subreddits that I am guessing will have more users who save images. These are subreddits for things like art or photography or design. I'm only putting enough money into each ad in order to get a good sense for how well it converts. I'm going to try several different ad designs over the next few weeks and try to narrow down to the most successful subreddits as well. The ads have only been running for a few hours so no real data yet!

    Epic:

Launch Naminator, Bianna, Dating site by end of 2019. Have one of them gain traction.

    Today:

Working on migrating Naminator's backend to a different framework + database.

Also - StartupSchool 2019 is starting soon. A lot of people will be looking for a new name for their venture. I'm thinking about offering a deal - to find everyone a name they like (by manually using Naminator myself) - and if I can't, I'll pay them $5. And if I do, they can optionally pay for Naminator's premium version.

    This will do two things:

    1. I'll get an idea of what people's thought process is like when looking for a name - what do they like and don't like, etc.

    2. I'll get to use Naminator a lot and in different contexts - it'll probably give me a lot of ideas for improvement and making the results a lot better, and clear up any edge cases, etc.

Also in the cases where Naminator doesn't come up with good suggestions, I'll be able to fix it and deploy new improvements right away until it does - therefore not having to pay anyone and improving the software in the process.

    1. And it'll get us making revenue, even if I'm trading my time for $10 at a time, haha.

    Tomorrow:

Finish migrating Naminator's backend + start work on the new filters / search (of which my cofounder has almost finished the design)

What are you using to create the validation landing page? I recommend Carrd if you aren't locked in yet!

      1. 1

I am building it with the Laravel Framework. Why should I use Carrd if I can do it with Laravel? Just curious.

        1. 1

I don't know anything about Laravel. As long as you're using a tool you're fine. I just know some people still make their own landing pages from scratch and its a near total waste of time with the tools out there now.

    KUDOS

@jpusateri (For the insightful retro, not the lawn work.) Although, I'm not convinced that AA is your way forward. Don't get me wrong... I love the focus. Just wonder if that's where you passion lies. You seem to really dig the freelance work! Either way, look forward to seeing how this unfolds!

    1. 2

I hear you. My freelance focus has been purely an angle to get me free from the man and buy me some time to work on AA. Dunno where it lands, but for now I'll be chasing a bit of a balance. What I really want is a lifestyle business so I can just build useful things and not worry about money, but agency building speaks to some vanity in me I think. I spent a bunch of time with impostor syndrome, but after the years to finally get through it all I see now is opportunities to just do great work and help a bunch of companies.

Guess I win either way though.
