Monday Edition: Stand Down

Due to the workload of my day gig, I will no longer be able to sustain the daily stand ups. Today, I stand down. Thanks for the mighty support, advice and encouragement. ✌🏾

Why?

That extra nudge of accountability to achieve even a small step on your IH journey each day.

To join in:

01 Share your epic (a big chunk of work with a meaty objective) you'd like to complete by the end of April.

02 Share what you accomplished yesterday.

03 Share what you commit to accomplishing today.

04 Comment on at least one fellow hacker's progress and give them an IH Point for their check in.

Optional:

05 Share your Work In Progress to underscore your accomplishments.

Then tune in the tomorrow to share how you did on your own tasks!

#daily-stand-up

Gatsby, so is that comparative to Foundation or Bootstrap for React developers? I'm trying to understand the purpose of it. It's so many damn frameworks in the world - I don't know what's what. It's not like technology or the internet hasn't improved. It seems it would be fewer frameworks, not more.

      1. 3

That's a damn good description. Also WP for front-end developers... with none of the bloat.

I gotta admit that I am thrilled I made the switch. I am officially a convert. My speed scores when from the bottom 10 percentile to the top 3%. I hated the bloat of WP themes, not to mention all the mystery code that I didn't want to take the time to dig into.

I also hated the idea of hand-coding pages. Even though I could add automation/templates for stuff like posts and pages - the time to spin up would have been too onerous for the experimental stage. Gatsby hits the sweet spot. Not much overhead/bloat. Reusable components. And the power of GraphQL.

(And I'm waiting for @louisswiss to share whether I fixed the awkward hero section.)

For the moment, my primary concern is porting my pages from WP to Gatsby, generating content and running experiments. But I can't wait to dig in and templatize/automate, should Jeanius prove investment-worthy.

        1. 1

I'm glad Gatsby worked out for you and help w/ your page ranking. Yeah, I respect WP on the business level but just couldn't get on board w/ its code base.

  3. 1

Shit! You got me @Harlem. I was about to email ya to send encouragement.

    WIP Mindful

    side note
MicroConf was so AWESOME!!! I'm still coming down from my high and need time to reflect. I highly recommend y'all to start saving now and apply for their scholarship program to attend next year conference. This conference went beyond aspirational and dive into practicality for your business. My first time to be in a room w/ successful (and struggling) founders who didn't generalize but gave advice, options, and different perspectives to investigate based on the context of your problem. Folks was straight 100% REAL about their journey which makes it super easy to ask for help and help others.

    1. 2

      That sounds awesome!
