How did the business model look? Anything surprising for you?

      1. 1

The big relief was vetting a local sales opportunity. It was very important for me to be able to create a business model that is feasible and attractive to salespeople from a long-tail passive revenue perspective, without cannibalizing all the margin from the main business.

It looks like a rep can set up a passive revenue stream of $56k per population of 10k (ie 2 small towns) with a decent upside, an acquisition time investment of around 100 hours, and an account maintenance cost of 10 hours per month. This doesn't cap and scales for the first few years of growth.

For the main business, high margin and mostly software and admin/server, TAM of around $1.3B annually. So lots of legroom on pricing and growth strategy.

        1. 1

Yeah, those numbers sound great! Encouragement to keep pressing forward, eh?

    2. 1

Just caught up on some of the recent updates for Announcr and Magnus Rush, I like the choice to focus on the better investment of time instead of just trying to make it all work all the time.

      1. 1

Well, a few things happened. It finally clicked as to why a company like Uber was such a great investment for so many people, with an insatiable yet justifiable need for growth and capital, throwing off multiples for quite awhile before it capped out.

Second, I've seen a great need for Announcr come up twice in my very small town in the last month, and was able to put together a reasonable business model for expansion, with fantastic margins.

Third, I did a lot more digging on the addressable market and saw a LOT of legroom in a very reasonable timeframe.

    Add eBay support to AZLabels

    Yesterday

    • Working on the front-end tests for CollectTrust, still not passing :/. Did manage to figure out a weird authentication issue when calling the API from the dashboard, but only in a local environment; that one sucked up a few hours of my life.

    Today

    • Get the front-end tests passing on CollectTrust.
    • Check the new upgrade panel analytics for AZLabels, make sure everything is going smoothly
    • Check if the developer access from eBay will allow me to do test orders/label prints like I need
    • File the quarterly GST return for the corporation

Alright let's make me more productive and accountable for my actions!

    1. I want to have at least 5 articles written for my blog by the end of July
    2. Went to Denver to see a friend yesterday and took a BREAK from work :)
    3. Going to write a rough draft of one article
  6. 1

    July

    • Get AutomatedApi to the sales block so I can get it off to the races

    Recently Done

    • not a damn thing since early last week except have a good time with family

    Up Next:

    • Build a client signup site (full fledged login and reservations thing)
    • Build a rudimentary client portal for API definition upload
    • Build proxy and simple logging for API calls made by clients
    • Implement a better payments setup
    • Client work as needed

My todo list is pretty general today, I have to get back up to speed after a long week and weekend out of town. Should have fewer interruptions for a couple weeks.

@jpusateri welcome back! Glad you got in some family time! Making those memories are precious.

Happy Monday and happy hunting with your next tasks esp those client-focused items!
