In the last few weeks I have rebranded SoccerCruit to productiverecruit.com in order to reach a larger audience in my niche, college athletic recruiting software. I only have 5 current customers and they were all understanding and on board with the rebrand.
Now my challenge is to take this business to the next level so I can work on this full time in the future. I have realized one of my biggest weaknesses was following up with prospects (and honestly not reaching out to enough) when I was launching and building SoccerCruit. I have listened to the recent podcast with Steli form Close and am exploring using GMASS or Close to automate my cold out reach and follow up sequences.
I plan to start cold outreach now as I am revamping and building v2 of the platform which will be something that can truly compete with my main competitor. My target market is youth sports clubs (I will focus on youth soccer clubs at first). The market is fully validated as there are multiple players in the space and my main competitor has over 262 clubs paying them at least $350 / month. My goal is to build a product I can charge $500/mo for and once I get to 15-20 customers, I could really argue leaving my day job. I know I'm getting a little ahead of myself but I need to know the end goal to be motivated to make it happen. It may take 2-4, maybe even 5 years to get there due to the limited time I have and the slow sales cycle of the market, but the good news is I have the time and there is no true rush or need to grow fast.
Here's to a great 2020 for Productive Recruit! Also, if you happen to have kids yourself who want to play college sports or know anyone in that position, please let me know or let them know to checkout productiverecruit.com - thanks!
I think setting a hard financial target is a great idea. Glad to see you're still working on this. Congrats on getting 5 customers already!
Thanks @asebold! Hope we can reconnect at a future meetup. Let me know if you’ve heard of any coming up. Glad to see fantasy Congress is still running!
@asebold @colin_mcatee there is a indiehackers meetup in early January in LP chicago (I think through eventbrite). If your planning on going, would love to hear how you guys structured your MVPs legally (LLC in chicago, or outside the state, or corporation, and how you manage your taxes - with a CPA or solo).
Hm I might go. Depends how busy I am. I went through lawyers and they set me up with a Delaware c-Corp. I was naive and didn’t know what I was doing so I wouldn’t suggest this route. IMO no need to incorporate until after you validate you mvp.
