Hey Indie Hackers đź‘‹
If you’ve ever visited Japan, you know how deeply the country and its culture can stay with you.
Goshuin Atlas started during my first trip there. I couldn’t find an app that helped me plan temple and shrine visits, learn what I needed to know, or understand the cultural context behind each place. So I decided to build the app I wished existed.
A few months later, Goshuin Atlas is releasing its first major version—the foundation of what I hope becomes the most modern, thoughtful app for cultural tourism in Japan.
Key Highlights:
A Discover page that surfaces temples and shrines by nearby locations, pilgrimage routes, tags, events, deities, and more
A powerful map to explore Japan and quickly understand what’s around you—or where to go next
Detailed temple pages with history, etiquette, accessibility, goshuin availability, and opening hours
Saved & visited lists that turn your trips into your own personal pilgrimage log
Nearby alerts that whisper when you’re close to a temple you’ve saved
