Moving the Needles - Metrics Tracker in Google Sheets

Hey everyone, Sandeep here from Kbee.

Over the past year, my cofounder and I have launched two separate products and have been working to improve our product velocity (the speed by which we’re able to change things according to signals in the market).

We put together an internal spreadsheet that we dubbed “Needles” where we tracked almost everything we could about our business on a weekly basis.
We broke down our metrics across the following categories:

  • Landing Page/Top of Funnel metrics
  • Marketing metrics (Google/Facebook/Linkedin ads)
  • Revenue
  • Product Metrics

By tracking these metrics week over week, we were able to pick a metric, come up with a plan to move it, execute on the plan, and then see if we were successful in moving this metric.

This mechanism allowed us to stay accountable to the goals of our products and ensure that we weren’t wasting our time on non-value add things. It also helped us move the needle on multiple metrics that impacted our core business.

We figured other teams and makers may find value in having a mechanism like this to scientifically track and measure what efforts move which metrics. So we put together this template that anyone can use. We have aptly dubbed this template as “Needles”. Needles gives you a way to track the metrics that matter most to your business and ensure you’re doing everything you can to move the needle.

As you use Needles, remember that your most important north star metric will depend on your product or service. There is no silver bullet for figuring this out. After you’ve been able to define this, however, it becomes much easier to track if you’re providing value to your audience the way you think you do.
Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or feedback about this framework. We hope it helps you as much as it’s helped us!

Thanks!

    Hi!

Are you currently automating this somehow?

Our project is actually a google sheet add-on that you can use to automatically fill in these values: https://gsuite.google.com/marketplace/app/kpibees/623897559595

    Thank you!

The names of our companies are oddly similar :)

Oh wow this is SUPER cool!!

Data entry is manual. The formulas and new sheet creation are automated.

Having these kinds of tools/templates can really ease up our work. Also, it gives accurate results which minimize faulty errors and maximize strategies in execution. Some businesses outsource their OBP Data Entry Services to have access on optimized data entry templates and tactics to assure smooth operations.

as a google sheets spreadsheet nerd, I love this !
bookmarked it for future use :)
