The Digital Millennium Copyright Act took this popular SEO site's homepage off of Google for bogus reasons. Moz is back up now but the article shows how DMCA can be liability. Another nod to @SaijoGeorge's TLDR Marketing

Why we care. This is a nightmare for most SEOs and site owners. To be removed from Google Search for your branded term. It should not happen, it is really inexcusable and sad to see but it did happen.

Even though Google did end up reinstating Moz, I agree with the OP of this article that this event is troubling to say the least. The DMCA process is clearly being abused, or it can be abused, and Google needs to do more to understand this. It happened to YouTubers a lot way back, where haters were taking them down with bogus DMCA claims. But I'm surprised to see it impact companies as influential and established as Moz.

I'd bet Google automatically takes sites down when they get requests, but they should move to a manual process. 24 hours just isn't enough time for someone who is accused of an DMCA to respond.
