Multi-vendor marketplace shipping?

I'm building a multi-vendor marketplace and I'm wondering how others have handled shipping? Is it enough to let vendors set their shipping policies and costs, or do you need to offer them shipping label and tracking services?

Has anyone dealt with this before?
