Hey everyone!
A friend and I have been hacking away at this for the past few months. It’s called TripTrip (triptrip.io) and it helps people build travel itineraries. It’s still super early, but waned to get it out there and get some feedback from the community.
Check it out, try making a 3-5 day trip to your hometown, and let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!
Hi Davfry,
Well done on launching your side project. I wasn't really able to read the selling points due to some UI bug you have there. Full HD res, Chrome 60 : http://pix.toile-libre.org/upload/original/1519661162.png
Yikes! Thanks! I'll fix that
Same problem with Firefox 58 on 21" 4k iMac
this is really cute! i'll try it for my upcoming trip.
the Add Trip item categories aren't working properly for me (in Tel Aviv). i'm not getting the results for Parks and Museums I'd expect to. most of the results seem to be Media/news companies.
Interesting. I'll look into that. Most likely it's a FB categorization issue. Thanks!
That was a lot of mostly negative feedback, which is me trying to be helpful, not because I am negative on the idea. I think the idea is good and the MVP is good, bar the issues with searching for trip items.
Best of luck!
Emile, this is gold. A lot of good feedback here. I really appreciate it. Thanks for taking the time to document all of this.
It's no problem, this community has been really helpful to me and I want to be as helpful as I can to others.
Best of luck.
Ah, one more problem. The deactivate account button doesn't work - could you make that happen? Thanks.
Hey davfry,
Sounds like a fun concept!
I honestly didn't go past the landing page, but I think the term "itinerary" is a bit confusing. I'm not a English speaker, but I think there are simpler terms that could make it easier to understand. Like "schedule", or "travel book", or "diary", or "trip", or just "plan".
That's great feedback, thanks!
Love it! Would be cool if it showed a map as well, and maybe something for flights/driving.
Love the name, the landing page, the days pipeline style. Probably a little bit polishing of the logo and Twitter login would make it perfect.
Thank you! The FB login is a major pain point for me, but it's the only way (at the moment) to get decent place data for areas that Yelp doesn't cover. Any ideas?
Not sure why you need user to be logged in with Facebook in order to get places data.
Can't you get the data from Facebook's API with your own app?
Yes, but we hit the limit pretty quickly. So maybe I let them play around with the app without signing up first and then make them sign up after a certain number of calls...
Oh, got it.
First that comes to mind is: offer standard email, Twitter and Facebook signup and then when adding a trip item if user not logged in with Facebook show "Connect Facebook to see near places".
Great product idea. Love how you can drag and drop items between the days. =)
Thanks!
I travel frequently, say 4/5 trips abroad per year. Could you explain why I would want to use your service/app?
Hey, in the short term it provides you a place to plan vacations. I used to use Trello or Google Sheets for this.
Once we have a itinerary database built up, it'll help you decide what to do. If you're going to Tokyo, search for "Tokyo" and you'll see what other people have done, how they've arranged activities, etc.
