My 2021 review: making the most interesting friends in Austin, TX... and letting them go

Last year, I had the goal of making the most interesting & successful friends in ATX, and I did!

They owned private ✈️'s, made millions w/ their companies, ppl stopped them for selfies. They were living my dream!

But when I slept, I dreamt of a simpler life. My tiktok feed was full of cottagecore girls dancing around campfires (lol). So to make it stop, I booked a month in Colorado and ran away to nature... I felt so alive. Much more alive than I did in Austin.

I came back to ATX, had dinner w/ my career idol(!!) and on the way back from their house I realized, omg, I don't want any of this. I actually don't want a flashy life. It makes me feel empty- I didn't expect that.

I realized that night, I was living like this:
DO ➡️ HAVE ➡️ BE

I would do/produce things to have social approval, so I could be someone worth knowing... even to myself.

Instead, I want to live like:
BE ➡️ DO ➡️ HAVE

Where I am someone who has a unique way of solving problems, I do/produce the way I'm solving them, and I have whatever benefits come out of that.

Even it's just my personal satisfaction.

End of year, with be - do - have as my mantra, I:

  • got clear on my values
  • made friends who made me feel good
  • met a great guy 💖
  • spent more time in nature

I'm so much happier now.
