My account got locked on DigitalOcean. Looking for hosting
Greetings everyone,
Today I created my account after being referred by a friend, we were in the same coffee spot, on the same network, and my account got instantly locked.
I did send them an email to which they replied that upon manual review, they can not do anything about my automatically blocked account and any further accounts I create will be subject to the same terms.
For payment, I did use a revolut card.
Is this a common practice?
Should I try again or just take my business elsewhere?
To be honest I am quite hesitant in persuing this as I received absolutely no clarification about it.
Are you using something else? I would be grateful for your recommendations

Take a look at Hetzner cloud. Maybe it will fit your needs. Also their services are cheaper than DigitalOcean, so you might save some money as well.

I had something similar with Linode. The messaging was rather rude, and there was no option for a manual review.
I understand that they need to combat criminals abusing their system, but locking out legitimate new customers is rather poor behaviour. It's disappointing to hear that DO is doing it too.
As a relatively happy Linode customer that's a bummer to hear.
It will be interesting to see if Linode's behavior changes since their acquisition by Akamai.
Change card and Email, it will work. It happened with me. If it does not, then you can try Vultr!
But even so, shouldn't they provide some sort of reasoning? Tomorrow they will decide they will limit my active account and provide no explanation
They do such things and that is quite weird and unacceptable.

I have decided to not pursue DigitalOcean. I will do some research on the recommendations in this post and choose one of them.

HostWithLove - I am customer since 2015/16 with them, I already used shared, semi dedicated and dedicated with them, great service, uptime and very fast. Support some time can take some hours to reply, but you receive the reply from people who know what to do, so most of time with one or two replies your problem is solved.
Me & my few mates faced similar issue. I prefer to give a try to Vultr HF. They got similar pricing but good performance than DO

I never had problems with DigitalOcean, using it for 5+ years now. Change accounts or wait until they unblock you. For the best alternative I would say https://www.vultr.com/
