My crazy launch. 32.000 visitors💥, No.1 on several platforms.

I've created the Tabler Icons site for my own needs. The Tabler Icons SVG set is full of (550+) high-quality icons I use on a daily basis for my own projects.

So I've decided to make a small side project that allows me to customize the size, stroke, and color of the icons and copy them directly to the clipboard instead of downloading them.

The Project was featured on ProductHunt on July 10 (Friday). What happened then is magic.

Here are the results:

✅ No.1 on ProductHunt - 714 upvotes 🙌
✅ No.1 on Reddit (webdev)- 5.500+ upvotes, almost 300 comments, 7 rewards including 2 x Gold. 🚀🚀
✅ 5.800+ likes and 1.500+ retweets 💥💥
✅ 500 new followers on Twitter 🤝
✅ Featured on Muzli home page 🎉
✅ No.1 on DesignerNews 🥳
✅ Featured in Sidebario newsletter 🍾
✅ No.2 on WebdesignerNews 🎉
✅ Featured in several newsletters related to web dev and web design
✅ 2.500 visitors from Facebook 🔥
✅ 32.000 visitors visited the site.
🔴 No success at all on Hacker news 🤷‍♂️

Few more positive insights:

The number of repeating visits is increasing every day. That's great and indicates users like the site and will use it.

I've also noticed that the site was immediately recognized by Google and organic traffic is like 200 users/day (may decline probably in upcoming days).

The number of organic backlinks is increasing also.

Summary:

My best launch ever. You need luck. I don't think this can happen again and again and you can replicate it. I've launched more than 20 projects so far but no one was close to this when it comes to launching success.

    Congrats!

I definitely agree you need luck. But you improved your chance of luck by launching more than 20 projects so far.

That is what I will do too.

    1. 1

Thank you. Yes, that's right. It's not easy to predict what users will like and what won't. How many projects did you launch so far?

      1. 2

I have one launched in May. Another one is in beta phase. And several brewing.

        1. 1

Same here. Good luck with your projects!

          1. 1

            Thank you. Same to you.

  2. 3

Glad to have played a small role in helping you launch on Product Hunt. Good luck!

    1. 2

Sure. All your help is really appreciated, Kevin!

    2. 1

      Aww that's so nice :-))

  3. 3

    Really inspiring! Well deserved success.

    1. 1

      Thank you Andrei. Appreciate it!

  4. 2

That's amazing! Are you sure it is all luck? Or have you been improving slowly/growing more experience sharing projects?

    1. 1

Sure, the experience increases over time. I just think that you can't replicate it. I'm almost sure if I would try it this weekend it won't be that successful. Hard to say really.

      1. 1

Interesting to think about it, thanks!

        1. 1

          Let's see next time.

  5. 2

Dude, you are icons are awesome. Keep up the good work.

    1. 1

      Thank you Michael!

  6. 1

    Congrats on your launch!

I have seen a couple of projects on Hacker News that have been reposted if they didn't get initial traction. So maybe just try to repost on HN and it will take off as well.

    1. 1

I'll do the same. Thank you!

  7. 1

This is great news! Thank you for sharing!

  8. 1

Hey @csaba, when you mentioned other newsletters - which did you mean? Thanks!

    1. 1

I don't know actually because there is no referer and no UTM included. I just experienced a few spikes in the traffic at different hours without any reason. So it must be from the newsletters.

  9. 1

Awesome product! I'm definitely gonna use this for my project :)

  10. 1

Make something that people want. Icons is definitely one of them. Congratulations.

    1. 1

Thank you. Yes, this is definitely a key to success.

  11. 1

Been trying to do google organic traffic myself, not sure how you got it ramped up so fast. I heard it takes 3-6 months to get some decent traffic out of it. How long did it take for you?

  12. 1

Wow, what a launch! Great project as well, I am bookmarking :).

  13. 1

Congrats @ckissi! Like everyone said, besides luck, you should also give yourself kudos to your accumulated experience. I have played with lot of icon libraries but you did a great job with simplifying the user experience.

    1. 1

Thank you, Mihir. Hope you'll use them!

  14. 1

Well done. It's a very useful tool, thanks so much for making MIT Licence :)

    1. 1

Forwarding this to Pawel the maker of the icons.

    1. 2

Thank you Ildiko for your help!

  15. 1

Your site is useful for most makers. Thanks for making it! Though I am still using font awesome, I've bookmarked it and use it in my future projects.

I am going to launch my project 3sName on ProductHunt. IMO, it's getting very competitive now. Besides luck, a product has to be very professional

  16. 1

Wow! Lots of props for launching such a simple yet powerful product. I'm one of those people who have felt the pain of trying to manage stroke widths within design projects, so this is a straight up gem.

Nice launch, and best of luck in the future! ☄️

  17. 1

    @ckissi wow this is awesome!
    congrats on the successful launch.

Btw I'm planing to launch my product(Saas sales productivity app) in next few weeks..

I have only product hunt in mind, do you have any recomendation on other platforms or ideas?

    1. 1

I try to first launch on PH always to avoid somebody else will hunt it. It depends on the product itself where to submit it. My project is related to web devs, web designers so it's probably easier to target. You need to find where is your audience.

  18. 1

Good job! And don't worry about Hacker News. You need even more luck there :D … and results there could be a bit random ¯\(ツ)/¯.

    1. 1

Thank you. Yes it's exactly like this. The blog posts usually do better on HN I think.

  19. 1

Good news about business success are the best news! Congrats! It shows, if you can make it once, you can make it twice, use your momentum!

    1. 1

Thank you! This is exactly what I'm trying to make. Use the momentum until its possible.

  20. 1

    Really great icons. Nice work!

    1. 1

Thank you and thanks to Pawel, them maker of the icon set.

  21. 1

Agree that luck is needed but this also appears like good product market fit too. I mean everybody building web projects needs quality icon sets. You're offering high quality, customizable svgs icons and they're free. I imagine a lot of web devs would flock to this. Thusly, your launch success kinda makes since to me actually! Must have felt great! Congrats bud!

    1. 1

You're right Corey. I've created the site for my own needs but I hope it'll be really helpful for others too.

  22. 1

Congrats, it looks very similar to my old friends startup (defunct ;( RIP ) called illustrio. I will definitely use this for my upcoming work!

    1. 1

Thank you. Hope you'll find them useful.

  23. 1

Congrats!!! the icon set is really nice.

  24. 1

bet you got a wicked rush from this

  25. 1

Congratulations! you have something that people needs. That's a big start.

  26. 1

    Congratulations!
Can people share what one can do with these icons in addition to use them in some app/web sites? For example, is there an easy way to teach windows or some Linux GUI to associate a file extension or search words with an icon? Or maybe there is a way to teach Google Doc to associate an icon with some type of documents? Or anything else really? Thanks!

    1. 1

I think it can be done only programmatically or by 3rd party software. I earlier versions of Windows it was possible to do this by changes in the windows registry. But I'm on Mac for almost 10 years already.

  27. 1

    Hey @ckissi
It's a great project; this is quite simple and super useful.
Any plan to have a "buy me a coffee" or something like that?

      1. 2

        I think so.
It's very useful for a bunch of people.
Why not give them a way to support you on this?

  28. 1

That's amazing! Congrats. I hope the growth continues.

    1. 2

Thank you. I hope so. Traffic will probably drop a lot in the upcoming days but I really wonder how much.

      1. 2

        That's one question to ponder.

Another more beneficial, productive question to ponder is, "What can I do to keep traffic coming to the site?"

        1. 2

          Yes. That's a #1 question right now.
