EmailMagic.ai's MRR is now kind of stuck because of the huge churn rate during the 7-day trial period.
What would you do to lower churn in this case?
Customer churn is a problem that every business faces, but it can be reduced by first analyzing the root cause of the high churn rate. Once you identify the problem, you can fix it quickly to minimize the churn rate. You can get this information through internal surveys or other methods during the churning process. I suggest using Churnfree, a great tool that can help you reduce your customer churn rate with its retention flow.
There are multiple reasons for customer churn:
When a user wants to cancel their membership, Churnfree shows them offers such as yearly discounts or the option to pause their membership for a specific time. Churnfree can save up to 46% of churned requests and also collects the reasons why customers are leaving in one dashboard. This data and insights can help you win back your customers.
Try Churnfree for 14 days with a free trial to see the positive impact it can have on your business.
thank you @buckyjames for your short detail!
welcome
That's not churn Ryan.
That's a problem with converting free users into paying users.
And it's a problem that most people face. Free users rarely become paying users.
Agree with what everyone else has posted. It's key to understand the reason the users aren't sticking around. Also agree that if it happens during the trial it is a missed conversion and not churn
One key point to take into account: do they understand how your tool works? Not only does it do what they expect it to do, but do they know the steps they have to do to get it to work, how to get the most out of it?
The tool might be able to solve their problems and they can get value, but maybe they just don't understand how.
Good luck!
One of two things:
Make a better product.
Find a better customer.
I would be very cautious with your approach. A client not going past the trial phase is not a churn. It's a missed conversion. That is very different. Churn is a customer that is paying you for a certain period of time and then canceling their contract/subscription.
This 56% of users haven't paid you yet. You confirmed they were "checking your product out"
34% of users converting from Trial to Paid is actually a really good number. While you can work on this, this doesn't seem to be a problem at all!
Have you ever considered removing the trial and replacing it with a 30 days full refund warranty?
Probably you have such a big churn rate because your onboarding is not currently let the people use the product in the first 7 days, so they churn. By asking a monetary commitment you will see a lot of less signups, but probably more commitment during the first period of usage!
Churn can be a tricky problem to tackle, but luckily there are many strategies you can try to help lower your churn rate. Some of the most common ones include optimizing your onboarding process, providing better customer support, or offering discounts and loyalty rewards. You could also consider running A/B tests or surveys to get insights into why customers are leaving.
I would try two things:
one, put yourself into your customer's shoes. What might be causing them to churn? Is the price too high, or are the features just not quite what they need to stay?
two: what can you improve to make the platform irresistible? If you have a competitor, see what they are doing differently. Or, what can you change about your trial to get people to stay longer than the 7 days?
exactly your right first you know what is the root cause of churn if you know you can improve it and retain your customers I will suggest you to once check out https://churnfree.com/ this tool is helping businesses to retain customers on automation.
Do you have any idea why those users churn? You should ask them and then figure out the next steps.
Yes, I've asked them and they all say they just wanted to check out the tool.
Maybe you'll want to prepare a few questions to help dig deeper about their mindset around when they started the trial vs their mindset when it came time to make a buying decision.
There could be something with your app, the pricing, etc but you won't be able to tell that without talking to the people who experienced your app and decided not to buy. It'll also be important to talk to your current customers and ask them why they decided to buy.
By learning the perspectives of the buyers and not buyers you'll be able to logically chart what defines someone likely to buy then you'll be able to see how to push not buyers towards a buying mindset.
Without doing at least 5 probably 10-25 interviews you'll be taking guesses at what they're thinking.
As an example one good question to ask might be "If you had a magic wand and could change anything about EmailMagic's app or offering what would it be?"
You may also want to customer satisfaction scores by asking something like "On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being not satisfied and 5 being very satisfied), How satisfied were you with EmailMagic during your trial?"
Hope this helps!
