Something a little different today. My dad turns 34 tomorrow.
He's the reason I had the confidence to build IndieDeck in the first place. When I told him I wanted to drop everything and build a SaaS from scratch with no technical background, no funding, no team, he didn't question it. He just said go ahead.
Every late night, every failed deployment, every moment I wanted to quit, he was there. He never fully understood what I was building but he understood that it mattered to me. That was enough.
IndieDeck has been getting a really strong response lately. Signups are up, the feedback has been genuinely great, and it feels like the right moment to do something meaningful for the people who've been following along.
So tomorrow I'm dropping a 24-hour birthday offer. Because he turns 34. Details go live tomorrow morning, it'll be the best price IndieDeck has ever been at.
If you're interested, drop "Interested" in the comments and I'll make sure you're the first to know when it goes live.
24 hours only. Not coming back after that.
Happy birthday dad. This one's for you.
"Drop everything and build a SaaS with no technical background, no funding, no team" — that's three blocks at once that stop most people. Curious which one actually was the hardest to push through in those first 30 days. Was it the no-technical-background block specifically, or was it more the absence of someone telling you it was reasonable to even try?
Asking because the support story (your dad saying go for it) sounds like it might have been the thing that flipped this from "shelved idea" to "I'm actually doing this." Or was the decision already made by the time he said it?
The part that hit me wasn’t even the discount — it was “he never fully understood what I was building but he understood that it mattered to me.”
A lot of founders quietly carry that emotional side of building, especially early on when there’s barely any external validation yet.
Also smart positioning-wise. You turned a simple pricing promo into a story people actually remember instead of just another “limited-time sale” post.
Really appreciate this 🤝
And yeah, I think a lot of founders relate to that phase where the people closest to you don’t fully understand the product itself, but they still choose to believe in you anyway. That kind of support carries you through a lot of invisible moments while building.
Also glad the post didn’t just feel like another promo. Wanted the offer to actually mean something instead of feeling randomly manufactured.
Reading this from the parent side of the fence. The support is rarely about understanding the product. It is about recognizing that the person you raised is committed to something hard. That is the only signal a parent really tracks.
Two things worth knowing. First, the day you ship something that finally clicks for him, even at small scale, will mean more to him than you think. Tell him the small wins, not just the big ones. The everyday metrics are the language of the work for you, and for him those small numbers turn the project from abstract to real. Second, the years of trust you described compound the same way revenue does. You will keep cashing in on it for a long time without realizing.
Happy birthday to your dad.
This honestly hit hard. Thank you for writing this.
“The support is rarely about understanding the product” is such a powerful way to frame it. I think you’re right, he never needed to understand every feature or technical detail. He just saw that I cared deeply about building something and chose to trust that.
And the point about sharing small wins is something I probably needed to hear too. It’s easy to only talk about the big milestones while forgetting that the small numbers are what slowly make the whole thing real.
Really appreciate this perspective 🤝

I became a victim of a romance scam that led me to invest $654,000 in Tether USDT on a fake site. After realising I had been scammed, I felt utterly hopeless and desperate for help. I began searching for a hacker online and came across Wizard Hackers Recovery. His professionalism and expertise gave me hope. Wizard Hackers Recovery worked to recover my lost funds, and I’m thrilled to say he succeeded! this is wholesome honestly. sometimes believing in someone before the results show up changes everything. happy birthday to your dad
Really appreciate that 🤝
And yeah, I think early belief matters way more than people realize. A lot of building happens in phases where there’s barely any external proof yet, so having someone trust you before the results exist can genuinely change the trajectory.
Yeah, support matters a lot - but at some point execution has to take over too. Both probably matter more together than separately.
This hit close to home. Building solo from Vietnam — nobody in my circle really gets what I'm doing either. But somehow that unconditional support, even without understanding, makes all the difference.
Congrats to your dad, and congrats to you for shipping. The fact that IndieDeck has $440/mo MRR proves the trust was well placed.
Really appreciate this 🤝
And honestly, I think a lot of solo builders around the world quietly relate to that feeling. Sometimes the people around you don’t fully understand the internet/product/startup world at all, but they still choose to support you because they believe in you. That kind of trust carries a lot of weight during difficult phases. Also thank you 🙌 Still very early, but seeing IndieDeck reach real users and real revenue definitely made the whole journey feel more tangible.
Loneliness is probably the most difficult aspect of entrepreneurship ... It's quite hard to build without anyone understanding the path you are on. I try explaining some of my ideas to my grandma and she smiles and nods but well... xD Anyway, the support is always welcome and, for getting the vision, hopefully indie hacker community is there
Honestly yeah, I think that’s one of the hardest parts that people outside this world rarely see.
A lot of building happens in your own head for a long time before it becomes something visible or understandable to other people. So even supportive conversations can sometimes feel like you’re translating a completely different language 😭
That’s also why communities like Indie Hackers matter so much. Being around people who actually understand the weirdness of building things on the internet makes the journey feel a lot less isolating.
This hit me. Building without technical background, no funding, no team — that's the hardest part and most people don't talk about it honestly.
The "he didn't understand it but supported it anyway" part is universal. My mom is the same. She has no idea what I'm building but she asks every week how it's going.
Happy birthday to your dad. This is a good one.
Really appreciate this 🤝
And yeah, I think a lot of builders quietly have similar stories with their parents. They may not understand SaaS, MRR, APIs, launches, or any of the internet terminology, but they understand that you care deeply about something and they want to support you anyway.
Honestly, those small “how’s it going?” check-ins matter more than people realize while building.
Very cool. You're lucky to have a dad like that. Cherish the time you have together.
Absolutely. The older I get, the more I realize how valuable that kind of quiet support really is.
A lot of people only appreciate it fully in hindsight, so I’m trying not to take it for granted while building all of this. 🤝
This hit differently. I'm three weeks into building my first solo product — a budgeting app — while working a full-time job. No co-founder, no funding, no one who really gets what I'm doing yet.
The part about "he never fully understood what I was building but he understood that it mattered" — that's exactly what it feels like talking to anyone outside this community about what you're doing. They can't see the vision but they trust you anyway.
Congrats on the momentum with IndieDeck. And happy birthday to your dad. Posts like this are why I keep coming back here.
Really appreciate this 🤝
And honestly, huge respect for building a product while balancing a full-time job too. That phase requires a different kind of discipline because most of the work happens quietly when nobody else sees it yet.
Also yeah, I think a lot of builders here relate to that feeling of trying to explain something that still mostly exists as a vision in your head. The people around you may not fully understand the product itself, but the trust and encouragement still matter a lot during the early stages.
Wishing you the best with the budgeting app too 🙌
Hope you keep building it.
Dads always support with hugs... keep it up
Haha very true 🤝
Sometimes a little encouragement and belief from parents carries more weight than they probably realize.
You're lucky, I never had that support but I build anyway
Respect honestly 🤝
Building without that kind of support takes a different level of resilience. A lot of people underestimate how much mental weight founders carry quietly while trying to make something work.
The fact that you’re still building anyway says a lot. All the best to you !
also ss promised, IndieDeck Pro is now 34% off for the next 24 hours:

I couldn't do anything else, I'm not build for a corporate job. The loneliness is real but you eventually get over it. I think it's simply a case of being true to yourself. I think most of us have great internal compasses if we listen hard enough.
I relate to this a lot honestly. That feeling of “I can’t really do anything else” seems pretty common among builders. It’s hard to explain to people who haven’t felt it, but some people are just wired to create things and pursue their own direction, even when it’s uncertain.
And yeah, the loneliness is real sometimes. But I think being aligned with yourself matters more long term than forcing yourself into a path that never felt right.
agreed Vipul - good luck with everything
thanks man
It is truly a blessing to have that kind of unconditional support. I am currently building a local PKM app, and I know exactly how overwhelming those late nights and failed deployments can be without someone in your corner. I have to ask though—your dad is turning 34? You must be a very young founder! Wishing him a happy birthday and congratulations on the great momentum with IndieDeck
Appreciate all the support on yesterday’s post 🙌

And yeah, having someone support you unconditionally while you’re building things honestly changes everything. Especially during the late nights, bugs, failed launches, and all the moments where nothing seems to work. Also your PKM app sounds interesting, local-first tools are having a really interesting moment right now.
And yes, I’m still pretty young 😅
He got married early haha, but I’ll definitely pass the birthday wishes along to him.
That's the kind of support that makes people reach highs they never thought possible.
Appreciate the interest 🙌 Just launched the 24-hour IndieDeck Pro sale:
