Hey IH,
I wanted to share a solution to a problem I see constantly with bootstrapped e-commerce stores: they put a ton of effort into their site's SEO, but get zero visibility (and zero sales) from the Google Shopping tab.
It's super frustrating because these are high-intent buyers, and the traffic is free.
After digging into this for several clients, I realized the issue is that Google Shopping doesn't really care about your on-site SEO. It's a completely different algorithm that's 100% focused on the quality of your product data feed in Google Merchant Center.
I ended up creating a 7-point checklist to fix this. The biggest levers are:
Treating Product Titles like H1 tags: Using a Brand + Product + Attributes formula.
Getting the google_product_category super specific.
Making sure product identifiers (GTINs) are correct.
Prioritizing Product Reviews to get those star ratings to show up.
Fixing just these few things has made a massive difference.
I wrote up the entire guide, including a deep dive on which Merchant Center settings actually matter and a Google Doc template for building a perfect feed. I figured it might be useful for other founders here who are managing their own marketing.
