My experience of trying to monetize my beautytech application with the affiliate business model

Back in 2018, I started seriously building out an idea - a niche visual search engine for beauty enthusiasts. After a few initial prototypes and an early version launch (http://lipcolourmatch.com), I gained some traction and tried to monetize my site using affiliate links.
It turned out to be a lot harder than I thought!

Hi Rosie! Thanks very much for replying! I have to admit, I'm a bit starstruck since I've been following you on Twitter for a while!
I decided that I didn't have enough audience yet for affiliate marketing to work properly and most of the affiliate marketing networks were definitely designed with bloggers and youtubers in mind, not colour search engines.
So I'm trying to go via the subscription route - it's not very common in the BeautyTech platform business, but I'll see if I can make it work!

Maybe it's worth starting a newsletter to educate people or curate useful bits of information/news?
I never wear make up, so am clueless on that end.
