In 2013, we launched our first product - an e-commerce CRM system (I don't want to put link here, it's not for advertisement). Soon, I'll drop the link on IndieHackers profile once our new site is ready.
๐ฐQuick traction timeline:
Launch: October 2013
Hit $1000 per month: March 2014
Hit $3000 per month: May 2014
It's been going strong every month since far 2013!
๐What did we do:
Started with my boyfriend (now husband). He handled development, and I took on everything else he couldn't manage due to time constraints.
๐ผCustomer growth journey:
We started slow but eventually picked up speed. Our name spread among a niche of online sellers, thanks to word of mouth. This was Leap #1.
Then came Leap #2. We found a partner who saw the potential in our affiliate program. It was lifetime-based then; they earned money each month by recommending our CRM. This partner, mentoring newbie internet entrepreneurs, fit right in. Our CRM was cost-effective, and it was a simple solution to mass sales with numerous functions.
๐ฅThe Marketing Money Barrier:
All the time we thought that marketing is paid ads. We had not any experience in marketing and product promotion. We thought our efforts were good (helping clients, partnering, active social communication, blogging), but where was marketing? Advertising on social media? That needed funds.
๐กThe insights!
I was young (22) and marketing-naive. No education in it, just a degree in Public Administration.
I love read. Once I saw the book of Philip Kotler's "Marketing Insights From A to Z: 80 Concepts Every Manager Needs to Know". It turned my mind!
I was shocked and thrilled, I realized that marketing wasn't only paid ads. Everything we did was marketing - putting ourselves in clients' shoes, living the product, building reputation, support, discounts, adding features by request, even handling midnight urgent queries.
๐So I understood why did we get the result:
Money started flowing in. We attended conferences, did a bit of advertising - all minor compared to our focus on maintaining quality.
๐กKotler's Idea:
Marketing is too important to leave only to the marketing department. Every team and employee must work on it.

An inspiring journey that underscores the power of continuous learning and the holistic essence of marketing. Kudos to your dedication and adaptability in the ever-evolving e-commerce landscape! ๐๐
Thank you for your support Artyom!
This last part is a such nice catch:
If you're uncertain, remember your product solves a problem. Your task is to inform clients about it and highlight their problem. After that you even will not need to sell.
Thank you for sharing with us this treasure.
Thank you! Nice to read this comment!
Its a thoughtful insight sharing. Hope it will help.
Thank you!
Interesting
thank you Ismail!
After 10sec of research, I assume it's all about leadvertex.
That's interesting as the app looks complicated and not ready for production but you are saying it gets $30000/mo. I'm impressed ๐ฎ
We launched the first version of LeadVertex 10 years ago. It's absolutely ready for work and we have a lot of customers during this time. This year we also launched the second version. The website for the second version will be ready soon and I will share it here. Thank you for your support to my arcticle!
Wonderful journey! How much it took you to see the result of investing in content building?
It's very effective. During my professional journey it often seemed to me, that maybe it's not effective and etc. But with time I understand that it's very important task. But sometimes you can't understand it immediately
Yeah, maybe because it took time, but along the way, it's having a snowball effect.
It remind me of Seth Godin Book. This is marketing: you canโt be seen until you learn to see
In the book it talked nothing about ads, or social media posting. The main point in it is marketing is all about how we change our customer life to be better.
What's that mean is build a good product that people will not ignore you or better it will be dumb for people to ignore you. That is they key for marketing.
Think about it. Without great product you can get traffic but retaining the customer will be near impossible. That's why having great useful product is no 1 and then you can focus on ads or anything else.

But you did heavy investing. Not financial, but time-wise.
