My first month with Local Waifu: 11 sales and a lot of disbelief

I still remember the first email from DodoPayments telling me someone had actually bought a license key.

My honest reaction was: what the f** just happened?* I genuinely didn't expect anyone to care. I smiled the entire day and was in a stupidly good mood.

Local Waifu has been live for less than a month. It's a privacy-focused, on-device AI companion for macOS and PC — everything runs locally, nothing leaves your machine.

The numbers so far:

  • ~500 unique visitors

  • 11 paid subscriptions

11 people in the first month, from a standing start. I'll take it.

Where the traffic came from, roughly in order:

  1. AlternativeTo

  2. Google

  3. AI (assistants / search sending people my way)

AlternativeTo has been the biggest surprise — it's quietly outperforming everything else.

A small shoutout to DodoPayments too: it's the one part of the stack I haven't had to fight with. Setup was painless and it just handles the boring billing stuff for me.

Honestly, the best part isn't the revenue (yet) — it's the proof that strangers will pay for something you built simply because you thought it was cool. Didn't expect it. Really happy it's happening.

More updates as it grows.

11 sales from ~500 visitors is a solid signal this early. The privacy angle is compelling, but I think the bigger differentiator is ownership. Paying once for software that runs entirely on your own machine feels refreshing when almost everything else is moving toward subscriptions and cloud lock-in.
