After four months working full-time on GenerateBanners, I've got my first paid customer today!!
I see this first subscription as a user validating the current state of my project.
For context, I'm building GenerateBanners, a simple way to automate image generation.
Over the past 3 months, I've focused on iterating on user feedback to improve each of the detail they were bringing up. My goal was to hit the first subscriber before the end of 2022. Onto the next goal!
Shameless plug: If you're looking to automate images, there is currently a 50% early-user one-year discount with the code EARLY22
.
It would be great if you could share your strategies for promoting the product
For now there isn't a well established strategy. I write code and talk to users to make sure the product has good UX and solves their problem.
I've launched on Polywork, IndieHackers and written a tutorial for the 100 Days of Nocode challenge newsletter.
So my advice is really close to what YC says: write code, talk to users, launch early and often.
Got your point, thank you for sharing.
My pleasure, I hope it'll help!
Congrats Thibaut! Have you been building it in public?
Thanks! Yes I'm sharing my progress on Twitter (https://twitter.com/thibpat) and monthly on my blog/newsletter (https://thibpat.com). The next newsletter is going out tomorrow.
Congrats! You never forget that feeling!
I won't forget!!
I still remember the first customer from my previous startup. It's crazy how one person spending money can make such a difference on a new business!
👏 great first step! Here is to the next 9(999999) 🥂 :)
Thanks, I like this huge number a lot 🥂
Congrats! in four months, looks very fast?!
I did spend 6 months as a side project to write most of the code, before going full-time.
I've heard about other people who make money sooner though, so it's great but I'm not the fastest!
Awesome. Congrats Thibaut!
So, that's a 0,0033% conversion rate from free user to paid user.
What are your plans to increase the conversion rate?
Thanks for the question :) I didn't even think about computing the conversion rate!
Most of my users used the product before I added a payment system! They helped me create a great user experience (bug reports, questions about unclear interfaces...). I've had around 20 signups since I've setup the payment system (it was on October, 19th https://twitter.com/thibpat/status/1582689734568312832).
Now that the product is in a great state and with a payment system, it makes sense to use the conversion rate to focus on the right acquisition channel!
Congrats
Thanks :)
wow congratulations ! I wish I had my paying customer too
Thanks! I wish you get there soon too 💪 I'm sharing this to give hope, I enjoyed reading these updates to get motivation!
Congratulations! Just curious about how did your first customer hear of the product?
They had the exact problem my product solve, and they asked for a recommendation on Twitter. One of the person I follow shared a list of product that included my product. After a call with me, they decided it was the right product to solve their problem!
Headlamp is at the 4-month mark with no paying customers, but close to 100 free-tier users. Thanks for the glimmer of hope!
You're welcome :) I had 300+ users registered before this first paid user, so hang in there 💪
Congrats! Always looking for ways to make working with images, graphics easier and better looking if possible too....
Quick question, is the ability to make various versions/sizes of the images, different than what Canva does?
Hey John, Canva is a great too to make one image. GenerateBanners is a great tool to start from an image template and make many images, changing the text or images for each image. Right now there is no option to make several sizes of the same image in GenerateBanners.
A good example use case is to make an image for each blog post of a website.
Ahhhh. Got it! Yea that could be really useful.
Don't hesitate to reach out if you want more info!
Congratulations! Now the only way is to the moon 🚀🚀
Thanksss 🚀
Woot! 👏👏
Go Thib!!!
Yeeees Ben 🙌
Congrats!
Well deserved after all the hard work you put in so far. I'm confident that many more will follow 🙌
Thanks Harold!! I'm going back to work to help more users save time and make your sentence come true 😄
Congratulations! What a great feeling
Yeees ☺️ I see you have the same goal for SpreadShare, I wish you the best 💪
That is wonderful feeling! Congrats! 🎉
Products looks nice, you should grow template library, and maybe have a dedicated page, where people can actually preview them all. ✌️
Thanks for the feedback! I'm working with a designer to add more templates. The external preview is a good idea, I'm gonna do that once I have a couple more templates!
Congratulations. Hard work pays off.
Thanks 🙏
NIce.
Congratulations
Thanks!

We wish you all the bests!
Thanks, all the best to you too!
Your sharing gives hope. It gives courage. It gives strategies. With strategies one can reach for greater heights.
I'm happy that it gives hope!
Congratulations!
Thanks!
Well done, congrats! :-)
Thanks :)
Well done!!!
Thanks :) :)
Congrats, nice to see people reaching milestones like that!
Thanks, I agree! I've shared this post because I enjoy reading this kind of update from others.
Is it difficult to build such an in-browser image editor? I'm not planning to build a competitor, just curious.
Yes it's a pain to get it right 😂
It's easy to build something that solves 80% of the use cases. And then you need maths and it becomes really hard if you want to make something nice for the users!
A typical example of the 80/20 rule!
The first paying customer is such a huge motivation!
Definitely 💯
Congrats! You made it! 💪
Thanks, onto the next goal!
Congrats!
Thanks!
Inspiring to see you grow Patel
Thanks 🚀

I agree, I've already been focusing on the free users by iterating on the feedback they are giving, and I'll continue! Thanks 🙏
