If any of these scenarios sound familiar, I think you know what's on my mind.
I think it's a serious problem that:
a) We share great content with our friends and they never check it because one cannot remember to check every link shared on each medium.
b) You remember your friend shared some great content a few weeks back but you have no idea how to find it (ok, you can spend an hour on searching the browser's history, but that's not a solution too)
c) There are no real incentives to change that habit, we got used to bookmarking and saving for later anytime we can, but rarely get back to revise it.
If you feel me, I want to hear from you. I guess I have an idea 🤭
I usually use the Saved Messages feature of Telegram, and I've been thinking about building a bot for reminding me of things (things in general, and saved links in particular)
But yeah, somewhere to store bookmarks and then actually be reminded of them would be nice.
Hi @nvillanueva :) Let's reverse the scenario - you can share someone a link with someone in a way you now whether he/she has checked it or not. Now both sides are incentivized to use it via such an app/protocol
Thing is, how do you integrate it with the usual channels? How to incetivize to move from "copy URL, paste in $im_platform, send", onto "copy URL, ?????, paste, send"?
Maybe something that shows you a landing page with the link embed in it, and once the recipient clicks it, then it's marked as "visited" in your "dashboard"?
I like the idea! Not sure about the adoption and growth as a product, but at the very, very least sounds like a super cool side-project

Your app gives some kind of incentives to watch links you received from your friends?
Hi Andras! I used to use pocket a few years ago, for me it was another dumping ground for links. It has grown very rapidly to the point where I was overwhelmed by the trillions of unread links. And yes my goal is to incentivize getting back to links, instead of saving them for later (which requires strong habits to revisit them in the future)
Very interesting idea. Incentives and gamification always help.
I'm happy to test it when you have something.
I struggle with the same problem btw. I save links and then i forget about them.
Also, facebook bookmarks... I have literally tons of great stuff there, but when I think of the required timeframe to sort it out, I just abandon the mission :)
I am not good in remembering the detail. So my strategy is to save it first so I can find it later.
If the info is on a web page, I use Evernote and Pocket to save them immediately, Evernote for achieving and Pocket for readying.
If the info is a site (for its utility or source of info), then I save it in bookmark folders based on its categories: code/marketing/growth/util/etc.
I wish I opened my friends' articles they send me as fast as I open the memes they send me (which is instantaneously). We want to get information so fast these days that long-form articles are more for the weekend or recreational reading. Definitely trying to figure that out for the blog posts on thegoodstartup.com and how to reach out best to people, so would love to hear the idea!

I have a different problem which might be worse.
What about you actually check the link, think it's the most awesome thing in the world and bookmark it ( in a properly organized folder right? ) And yet, weeks/months/years later you just can't find it again because you have so many bookmarks.
Currently I have 800 of these bookmarks :)
Hi @OscarRyz that's exactly the issue I struggle with. I have so many bookmarks that I prefer not to revisit them because all I will end up with is the feeling of missing out :)
I think setting a reminder to look at a link is a great idea, i.e. pocket with a timestamp.
maybe it could even expire or something after a certain time unless the user saves it for longer? (to prevent the buildup you were describing of pocket)
That's exactly what I have on my mind :)
My IH project, https://topiqs.online, is made for exactly that and comes with an optional Chrome Extension that allows you to push the current tab url into either a "Link Bucket" (for later organization) or to add the tab url to any of your link collections (your own or others that you have access to).
Apart from my project I think many bookmark managers have similar functionality (though none works quite like mine of course).
nvillanueva & thedc above have some interesting ideas (that my project does not support, but maybe could & should in some form).
Thanks for sharing! You might want to consider giving an option to dismiss the sign up modal on launch - users prefer to look around first before signing up :)
