My idea validator

Show IH

  • The Backstory

This year I spent months building SigStreamCloud (https://sigstreamcloud.com) —a SaaS for reading windows comport data and streaming it to the cloud where it can be consumed via api or built in dashboard , target users were hardware engineers and diy hobbyists.

Built every feature. Polished the UI. Set up pricing. Ready to launch, spent days sorting out various edge cases.

Got zero customers

In my head i could see the use cases , a Diyer wanting to build a bespoke solution to monitor level of a water tank , or anyone wanting to monitor legacy comport devices.

The problem was I never validated if I could even reach the industrial engineers. No LinkedIn groups, no Slack communities, no Reddit subs.

A 60-second reachability check would've saved me a lot of time. This is is where I got the Idea to build an idea Validator

  • What I Built

PreValidate - AI-powered start-up idea validation in 60 seconds.

It analyses your idea across 4 key dimensions:

Reachability Score (1-10) - Can you actually reach your target market?
Execution Complexity (1-10) - How hard is this to build?
Market Evidence Score (1-10) - Do people want this?
Overall Score (1-10) - Should you build it?

Plus it catches:
Red flags (competing with Google, unreachable customers, unsustainable pricing)
Hidden costs (code signing certificates, GDPR compliance, API costs)
Next steps (specific actions to validate further)

Example Validation

Tested it with "Google Clone" - scored 1/10 😂

AI response:

  • Red flag: "You're competing with Google"
  • Hidden costs: "$millions in infrastructure"
  • Reachability: "Everyone = no one"

The Tech Stack

-Next.js 15 (App Router, React 19)
-Claude Sonnet 4.5 (AI analysis - structured prompts, not just generic ChatGPT)
-Supabase (Auth + PostgreSQL)
-Tailwind + shadcn/ui (for the UI components)
-Vercel (for Hosting)
-Paddle (Payments - still pending approval)

Built the MVP in ~2 weeks using v0.dev for landing page + UI scaffolding, then integrated my validation logic.

Current Status

Live in free beta: https://prevalidate.io

Offering 3 free validations to anyone who signs up.

After beta ends, im think of pricing at around : $29 for 5 validations ($5.80 per validation)

  • What's Next

Phase 1 (This week):Get feedback, iterate, fix bugs

Phase 2 (Starting tomorrow): Add real data sources:

  • Google Trends (search volume)
  • Competitor finder (who else is building idea you're validating )
  • Reddit mentions (is anyone talking about this problem?)
  • Domain availability

Phase 3 (Next month):Launch paid tier, aim for at for the first 10 paying customers

Would love for you to:

  1. Try validating an idea (or an outlandishly bad one!)
  2. Give honest feedback - what would make this 10x better?
  3. Tell me what data sources you'd want to see added

P.S Building in public on Twitter @Trevor_builds if you want to follow the journey!

Technical Details (for the curious)

The AI prompt is specifically structured to analyse:

  • Market accessibility (how do you reach them?)
  • Competitive moats (are you differentiated?)
  • Infrastructure costs (what will this REALLY cost?)
  • Common founder blind spots (things ChatGPT wouldn't think to check)

Happy to answer any technical questions in the comments as i embark on this journey
