Thought I'd share an overly dramatic story of my journey thus far:

Part 1: The Genesis - Identifying The Problem

Begin with the early days, the inspiration and the first steps.

In my early days as a budding coder, I began fiddling with some basic JavaScript. My projects were, in a word, 'ugly', but every coder's journey begins somewhere. One day, as I saw my father struggling with transcription work, a thought struck me: "In a world where we're about to send cars into space, surely there's an easier way to transcribe?" That question was the spark that ignited my passion project.

At that time, the available solutions like Google's API charged a hefty $1 per hour, which made transcription an expensive endeavor. As a full-time accounting sciences student (though I admit, that my attention was split), I embarked on a journey to resolve this issue. My weapon of choice? React Native, thanks to my familiarity with JavaScript.

Part 2: The Rollercoaster - Challenges and Innovations

Delve into the struggles, the learning, and the countless changes.

The journey wasn’t a cakewalk. Between hosting my own server and training my own models, I encountered a steep learning curve. I battled the intricacies of GRPC, diving headlong into Swift and Java - languages I had no business with. Looking back, I marvel at how I managed to integrate them without a clear manual!

Money was tight. More than once, I found myself negotiating for AWS, GCP and Azure credits, ensuring my server stayed up and running. Sleep? That was a luxury. Most nights, I was found hunched over my computer, refining the code or troubleshooting an issue.

My co-founder and I went through dozens of design iterations. Fifty, to be precise! We hopped between cloud providers, got our hands dirty with backend stuff and Terraform, dove deep into the world of Kubernetes, and made the shift from Firebase to Supabase.

Part 3: Reflections and The Future

Five years ago, my quest began with a simple problem. Today, after countless hurdles and immeasurable learning, we have an app called Writtan that's not only functional but also represents the pinnacle of our combined knowledge and perseverance.

Alongside my studies, I learned more about real-world applications than any course could teach me. From understanding audio intricacies and different sample rates to the nuances of server management, every challenge was a lesson in disguise.

Looking ahead, our ambition remains unyielding. The transcription space is just the beginning. With our robust foundation, the sky's the limit. Our indie hacker spirit remains alive, reminding us that with passion, grit, and a touch of madness, anything is achievable.
