Ever since I can remember, I’ve had that itch — the ambition to build something of my own. My days (and okay, maybe some late nights) were often spent scrolling through X or Reddit, constantly on the hunt for that spark, that next interesting business idea. You know how it is!

Then came the AI boom. Tools like ChatGPT and Gemini started getting seriously good, and suddenly, the mountain of coding a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product didn’t seem quite so towering. As a software engineer with a backend focus, I was pleasantly surprised to find I could even whip up a decent-looking frontend pretty quickly. The game was changing, and it was exciting!
This new accessibility got me thinking. I was personally playing around with different LLM tools, and honestly, I was a bit torn. One week, Claude 3.5 felt like it was reading my mind with its outputs. The next, ChatGPT’s GPT-4o would drop, boasting even better code generation. It was a constant shuffle.
And here’s the thing: if you’re not a super deep power user, the differences can feel pretty subtle. For most everyday tasks, many of these models are incredibly competent. This led me down a rabbit hole: in a world where AI makes building software easier and faster, how do SaaS businesses truly stand out and keep their customers? Is just building a slightly better model or feature enough when the next innovation is always around the corner?
It felt like a bigger question for the whole SaaS landscape. If AI empowers more people (even those who aren’t hardcore coders) to build similar services, competition is only going to get fiercer. How do existing SaaS players hold onto their hard-won customers when a newer, shinier alternative, possibly built with incredible speed, pops up?
One day, while grabbing lunch, something clicked. I saw a merchant proudly displaying their partnership with ShopBack. For those unfamiliar, ShopBack is a cool fintech company, especially big in Singapore, that gives customers cashback for their purchases. It’s a simple, powerful idea: reward loyalty, and customers stick around. They’ve built a huge network by helping local merchants retain customers.

That was it. The lightbulb went off.
What if we could bring that same proven concept to the SaaS world? What if I could help all those innovative SaaS businesses — the ones with fantastic products and often healthy profit margins — reduce churn by giving their users a tangible reason to stay subscribed month after month?
The more I thought about it, the more sense it made. The SaaS market is already bustling, and with AI tools democratizing development, it’s set to become even more competitive. In this environment, customer retention isn’t just important; it’s everything. My idea for a cashback system felt like a genuine way to help these businesses thrive by rewarding their users’ loyalty.
And that, in a nutshell, is how the idea for Byte Back was born. I decided it was time to stop scrolling and start building. I wanted to create a platform that helps SaaS companies keep their customers and helps users get a little something back for their loyalty.
So, I took the plunge!

So, what exactly is Byte Back?
It’s a platform born from the idea that loyalty should be rewarded, especially in the ever-evolving SaaS world. Byte Back helps software businesses keep their amazing customers by giving those customers cashback for sticking with their subscriptions.
Think of it as a thank you that keeps on giving, making it a win-win for both companies and their users, all with super simple integration.
I’m building Byte Back to solve a real problem I saw emerging. If you’re a SaaS business looking to supercharge your retention, or just someone who loves the idea of earning cashback on your subscriptions, I’d love for you to follow our journey!
