My New Build-in-Public Adventure: Researching, Designing, Developing and Learning Out Loud

I am starting a new journey! Those who know me know that I'm always working on something on the side (besides work). Over the past few years, my focus has been scattered across various projects, which has led me to neglect my nerdy inner self.

My new journey focuses on building in public. Although I've always admired this movement, it felt far outside my comfort zone. It still does—but this year is dedicated to embracing challenges that push my boundaries.

My goals with this journey:

  • Build a strong portfolio with case studies that solve real problems;
  • Explore AI's potential by integrating it throughout my process, from research to building MVPs for case studies;
  • Learn in public by sharing my process, wins, and struggles;
  • Connect with like-minded people who are also building and learning.

I'll be sharing updates about my progress here regularly. Looking forward to this new chapter! 🚀

If you're interested in following my journey or sharing your own experiences, feel free to connect with me. I believe the best learning happens when we collaborate and support each other. Let's grow together! 💪

First update on my progress:

✅ Created a project management plan
✅ Brainstormed design and content strategy for my portfolio website
✅ Selected my first case study: designing and building an ATS (Applicant Tracking System) tool—aiming to create something more flexible than traditional platforms and more user-friendly than spreadsheets or Slack chaos
✅ Initiated case study research, including stakeholder interview plans and user research survey
✅ Started competitive analysis by identifying competitor products
✅ Tested Vercel v0 for UI generation (wow!)

🧰 Tools I used:

  • Notion (planning)
  • Miro (mapping)
  • ChatGPT (ideation + drafting)
  • Typeform (survey tool)
  • Google Forms (survey tool, switched from Typeform due to their 10-response limit on the free plan 😒)
  • Vercel v0 (UI generation)

📌 Next steps:

  • Continue project planning
  • Begin stakeholder interviews
  • Distribute the survey
    👉 If you've been (or are currently) involved in hiring at a small company or team, I'd love your input!
    [Find the link to the survey in the comments]
    (Takes less than 5 mins)
  • Complete competitive analysis
  • Conduct a competitor feature audit
  • Map core competitor core features flow
  • Further testing of Vercel v0
  • Analyze insights from survey responses
