Not sure what I was expecting for my first ever Product Hunt launch but certainly not this. About 1.5 hours into launch day and my post has exactly 1 upvote. It's not even showing on the main page unless you sort by newest and deliberately look for it.
Not meaning to whine or anything, just feeling a bit surprised. Maybe at least I can learn from this and see if I have done any obvious mistakes regarding my launch or is it just bad luck/ timing? What are your experiences with PH lately?
If anyone cares about the product, here it is:

EDIT: just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU for everyone giving me valuable feedback! This thread turned out to be far more valuable than the PH launch itself (which ended at around 15 upvotes BTW, not too bad I guess)
Do you have an email list that you promoted this to? How engaged is your social media presence? How about any online communities that you're active it--did you promote it there?
The thing about PH is it's not a marketing channel where "if you post it, they will come." You have to promote the ever-loving snot out of your PH launch. If you already have an audience--even if it's just friends, family, and neighbors you bugged--you need to utilize them to help you get traction early.
Looking at your PH listing, it took me a minute to understand what the product actually was--so that may also be working against you. I might have phrased it something like, "Like UberPool for food deliveries."
But then again, maybe that's not the kind of messaging you want. I think just leading with something that instantly tells me "small food delivery fees eliminated!"
Great idea, though.
Thank you so much for your great comment! You are totally right and looking back I should have probably first gotten some engagement with the app before launching on PH.
I really like your tagline suggestions, hope you don't mind me going all-in on your UberPool idea 😁
Don't mind at all. :D
is it true that if most of ur mailing list doesn't have PH account and sign up on the day of the launch the votes are not as effective and may be thought of like a bot?
I'm definitely not a PH expert--but I've never heard that.
What I would do is a leading-up campaign. Tell my audience a week (or two) ahead of time that we'll be launching on PH soon, and that they should sign up for PH if they haven't already. This way, you're building anticipation, and getting people on the platform ahead of time. Those people will be watching their inboxes very closely over the next week or so for you to make the announcement.
I'm going to echo what others have already said - you need to put more effort into your messaging.
Your copy should inform me, within the first 3 seconds, exactly what your platform does.
This means stripping away every single non-essential word in a sentence that you can.
I think we avoid this because we're worried that we're not being 100% accurate unless we include every single piece of information.
For example, you currently have:
"Quarantify lets you find nearby people who want to order from the same place as you to save on minimum/ small order fees, food waste and CO2."
27 words - I'd try and cut ~50% of this sentence.
"Ordering food? With Quarantify, pool orders with your neighbours to save delivery fees and reduce waste."
Down to 16 words and (IMHO) absolutely laser-focused on explaining what you do in as few words as possible.
This advice is pure gold. Thank you so much, Nick!
Just posting on Product Hunt might yield a half dozen upvotes. That's really about it. I've never had success or anything go viral on Product Hunt, but it is still important to publish as Google will index it, your product will look official, and you can at least show that your product is legit because it has indeed been released to the world.
Good point, I haven't thought of it that way.
Failory.com has probably some of the best stories you can read but everyone has their own story. It's their to own, whether it was successful or not. As we sit in self-quarantine working on our own projects, getting things done -- because none of us are ever really not doing anything, as we just have to be doing something -- we're all going to keep going. That is what makes us human.
Product Hunt is part of your story, just as anything else you do would be a part of it. "Failing" is a part of every success story. And the only time you really fail is when you've realized the project just has no life and you are unable to keep it going or support it anymore, and no one else is on board, either. I'm sure I'll face that reality someday too. But for now... I'll keep dreaming the IndieHacker dream.
I'm sorry man :(
Also invest in creating a cool avatar for your project. Ideally a gif that really stands out...This icon is a bit too ordinary. Not a decisive factor, but those small things play a role
Hey @tgel0,
My project took #1 product of the day this Saturday (two days ago) was published 5 days (Monday) earlier and I though my launch failed getting around 30 up votes through the week.
So, in short — keep your marketing routine going! You still have a time to get to the first place.
Thanks but I think that ship sailed for me 😁 glad it worked out for you though!
🤔
That's nothing unusual, all PH launches are failures. We just had a thread here: https://www.indiehackers.com/post/my-launch-on-ph-was-a-failure-8e7a12e30e
My first 3 products failed miserably but 4th one got 51 votes (Which I think its cool). Its not the others were bad products but its the market which decided which winner was. No marketing, all organic. https://www.producthunt.com/@jassingh/submitted
This is sad because I think you have a really solid idea here with flawless timing, but the website execution is going to kill you. It took me far too long to figure out what it is, much less how it works. In addition, the design and delivery of content isn't doing you any favors.
I would take a step back and invest some time in really refining your message and design before settling on the value of this idea, because I think you're on to something here. Keep your head up. Take the feedback you've gotten here, make some major updates, and relaunch V2. 👍
By the way, I run DesignJoy.co. I love to help IH members. This isn't me selling my service. Just email me and I'll give you some pointers that will greatly improved your chances of being successful this next time around.
Thank you for your kind and honest words. I agree with you that I need to get help in the design department. That being said, I might actually email you 🙂
Hey, maybe it is the first visual.
When looking at it, I didn't get what it was. The interface looks really tiny and everything is compressed.
Maybe show some foods / beverage things people want to buy and then explain what you do ?
Good luck with your product !
Hey, thanks for your feedback! Do you mind telling me if you mean the mobile or desktop version? Or both? 😁
BTW, good luck with your SaaS product, too!
currently on PH, I see an issue with both visual.
Good luck !

That is not true. I launched Pikaso (https://www.producthunt.com/posts/pikaso) on PH in February and it got 400+ upvotes and became the "#4 Product of the Day". And it has been featured in the newsletter THREE times.
That was my first submission and I didn't have a large network. I only asked my friends and small Twitter followers to upvote it.
Great, I'd like to know more insights on your story:
Congrats on your successful launch by the way :)
I'm also on 4 upvotes as we speak! I might hit the magic number of 5 by the end of the day.
