My plan for my first SaaS No-Code Project - feedback wanted πŸ™

Thank you for reading my post!

This is the beginning of my SaaS journey and I would be very happy to receive feedback on my planned route :-)

For my first small project, I would like to develop a function for one of my existing niche sites. This page is about collectible figures and my micro SaaS project should make it easy for my readers to manage the collectible figures online.

I have planned the following steps:

  1. Working through an MVP Udemy course to validate the idea
  2. I want to learn bubble for the development of the MVP
  3. Take a Udemy course to successfully start a SaaS business
  4. Implement the idea with Bubble
  5. Grow at least to the extent that operating costs are covered (through affiliate income)

I look forward to your feedback on this approach! Do you think the steps make sense? Would you do something different?

    What about refining like this?

    1. Build a landing page to illustrate the idea with a nocode tool like wix / webflow
    2. Set up an email form on the LP to collect email
    3. Show it to your potential customers.
    4. Learn from Feedback and iterate
    5. Start building when there are a dozen potential customers willing to pay for it

This, you don't need courses to test an idea.

I agree with @bennychan. Learn about your customers before you build. I recommend reading The Mom Test for the stage you're at. It will really help you with next steps.

Thx for your refining! I will take care of these points in my first two steps. And start learning bubble as early as possbile to create a landing page, while learning the basics :-)

Hope it helps! Personally, I am more interested in shortening time to market. If you start to learn coding, it will always take more time than expected. Launch it asap can reduce your market risk.

If you're looking for making money as the first priority, find ways to sell it immediately. It's my personal experience since I learn too much in python / django / vue / docker / ubuntu / etc. The time can be well spent in other areas.

I'm doing something similar in that I'm building a business with No-Code tools. I built a quick landing page in KickoffLabs to get some sign ups and actually got my first sale yesterday from that in a user that will help me find out more about what I need to build.

Next step is building my new landing page with a blog on Versoly. Then the app will be hosted on app.prentus.co and be built in Bubble. Important thing is to LEARN as much as you can. I personally can't wait to start building but that's a mistake I made in my last startup. You don't know what you don't know.

How did you drive traffic to your page?

      1. 3

Traffic is tricky without spending money. To start, I did the usual:

        1. Post on HackerNews
        2. Be active on IndieHackers
        3. Be active and follow people on Twitter and Instagram

Got around 200 visitors in a week and a half from that with a 12% signup rate so far. The next step would be to make a good visual and spend like $30 on Instagram ads but not looking for too much traffic yet since I still have a lot to learn :).

        1. 1

That's smart! Congrats on your first sale :)

    What's the udemy course called?

So is your project about having users upload a collectible figure? And when you say manage what do you mean? Buy and sell figures?

Just curious since I can provide alternatives to bubble. I've used bubble before and it's sometimes too much for an MVP and can be hella time-consuming

Thank you for your contributions to my question! I started with this course: https://www.udemy.com/share/101sHqBEEacFZWR3o=/

The current idea for my project is to give the user the opportunity to present their own collection online, to check for completeness and to create a wish list. However, further expansion stages are conceivable. That is why I would like to collect more detailed information in advance.

      1. 2

If you follow the steps listed in the udemy course you'll be off to a good start with a landing page that will validate your idea with customers

      2. 1

Dope! lmk if you need any help :)

Hey! Welcome and best of luck!

For your steps, I'd recommend removing #1. Why take a course on validation? You need to find either users or customers. A course won't bring you those.

    Here are my recommended steps:

    1. Learn bubble first, get enough knowledge to build a landing page
    2. Build a landing page and collect prospective users emails (possibly create accounts for them if you can!)
    3. Start the Udemy course, but do it in your free time, when you're not learning bubble + building
    4. Send people to your landing page, make SURE that your conversions are good enough and enough people are signing up.
    5. If you believe you've validated your product, start building it out on bubble!
    6. Launch

    Just my opinion!

Thank you so much! Book is ordered :-)

    2. 2

I actually think it's important to understand your customer and learn how to find users. If the course is helping with that then why not take it? There's no point in building something that no one wants.

Also @JanB, a good book I recommend it the mom test. It teaches you how to ask good questions to validate your idea. I've read it a ton of time :) There's an online pdf of it for only $5

A course won't teach you those better than you can teach yourself.

For learning how to find users? It's your product, you should know where your users hangout online. A course won't know.

Of course there's no point in building something no one wants. That's why validation is so important. Building a landing page and collecting emails (better yet - making some presales).

        1. 1

Some people actually don't know where to find users for their product πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Most people launch to no audience or community. The course could potentially guide him. (idk since i dont know what the course is)

Let's say he does builds a landing page, where is he getting the traffic from? FB ads? There are def more organic ways of doing it (talking to potential users on IH, twitter, etc.). Most people don't know these things.

Either way, we both agree on building a community and finding your users before building πŸ˜‰ It's just harder for some people and they need help

Thank you very much for your helpfull answer! The udemy course I started, takes some of your point in account. And I will move my bubble learning into focus! Thx!

And I just created an Nocodify Account, looks interesting!
