My podcast reached the top 10% in 4 months

I started "The First 100" as a pet project to curb my curiosity about how entrepreneurs and founders acquired their first 100 customers.

I wanted to do only 12 episodes and see if I can be consistent and patient. Fast forward 4 months, and I have now logged more than 33 episodes with 20 others in the pipeline.

Do you want to know the secret sauce?

  • Start and don't be discouraged by the number of views
  • Cold email as many interesting founders as you can.
  • Don't be shy. Ask people to share it, not once, not twice, but three times. Persistency is key.
  • Create a feedback loop so that you can improve what you are not good at the next episode.
  • Believe in yourself.

There are currently 2 million active podcasts. 90% of podcasts don’t get past episode 3. That’s 1.8 million who quit. Of the 200,000 left, 90% will quit after 20 episodes. That’s another 180,000 gone. To be in the top 1% of podcasts in the world you only need to publish 21 episodes of your podcast. My competition is not the 2 million podcasts. It’s the 20,000 podcasters who didn’t quit.
