My Product Hunt Launch results and is it still worth it?

Short answer yes.

Slightly longer answer:

First off my Product is AI with Vibes, an AI newsletter: https://aiwithvibes.beehiiv.com/

I launched on Product Hunt yesterday and the plan was simple, once the voting day starts get as many Upvotes as possible within the first 2 to 3 hours, or else it's an uphill battle from there. (Except you can get 400 upvotes in like 2 hours midday and pop to the top from nowhere).

Here are my stats:
800 landing page visits
164 new subs ( in a week or 2 I'll come back to talk about how active they are)

When I talk about time, I'm in the UK so I'm using GMT

We ended up not making it to the top 5 but we were on 3rd and 4th all through the morning and afternoon, then by night a lot of products randomly spiked in Upvotes and we were dropped to 8th place (still nice to be top 10 tho)

Something I noticed was earlier we got about 100 upvotes from email but no new subs, makes sense since they're already subbed. We started getting inbound upvotes but still no new subs, less than 20.
Then by afternoon we just got ALL the spike, the new subs coming in like it's FTX sending user money to Alameda.

Then as I was enjoying the constant increase the random increases, and we were dropped so did the spike

So from what I've learned this is how to win the PH game:
Try to Get 100+ upvotes within the first 1 to 2 hours
Let product hunt users wake up and start voting
By afternoon do another Product hunt push to get another bump if you want to keep your spot (this is where I messed up).

It was worth if for me cause of the growth but the jury is still out on the quality

Hope this helps you!

I wish I read such posts before because I ended up with 4 votes :(

My personal opinion is that a lot of people overestimate PH launches. It's just an initial traffic spike which disappears after 2-3 days. After that, you may get a visitor from time to time from PH, but it's not enough to run a business.

No bummers, you don't need Product Hunt to be successful

      1. 1

now that was motivational, I liked it

  2. 3

I just launched on product hunt today too and so far it has been the best source of growth for me both in terms of quality and quantity of users.

Nice congratulations, Share your launch let me upvote

          1. 1

That's awesome man! Thanks so much for the feature!!!

  3. 3

You did way better than I did lol.

The way I see it, you may as well submit to PH to get some traffic and kick things off since it doesn't take long, but that's it 🤷‍♂️

    1. 1

Exactly, if you plan on launching again feel free to HMU and lets see if we can make it work

  4. 2

Congratulations! being in the top 10 is no easy task, you've done great :)

Product Hunt launch for my feedback tool ruttl last year was probably one of the best things that happened to us in terms of getting new users and spreading awareness, that's why we're gearing up for our second launch in Feb.

Also, this time around we are nominated for the Golden kitty awards in two categories -

    1. Design tools
    2. Bootstrapped & crowdfunded

would love it if you can support us, thank you so much!

Good job, Moyo, on launching your AI newsletter on Product Hunt.

339 upvotes and 800 landing page visits, solid numbers.

But remember, it's not just about upvotes, convert those votes into actual users.

Keep the momentum going all day, not just the first few hours.

Don't be discouraged, 8th place is still in the top 10.

Keep hustling, the results will come.

    Keep grinding!

thanks a lot, and one thing to add is PH does have second day drip we gained 100 new subs today majority from PH

Just saw a tool on PH with 900+ upvotes.

    I became curious.

Checked the tool, visited their Twitter account. They have over 3k followers.

    Then I checked their tweets.

Most of them are either 1 like with 50-60 views or not like/retweet at all. Then I went ahead and checked the reviews on PH.

    No reviews.

So to me, PH seems like a platform where you compete against these types of products where they product upvotes.

i think one thing to consider here is Email, some of this projects with little following most times have huge lists or maybe were hunted by someone big

  7. 2

You have done in correct way its awesome.

  8. 2

Congrats! What do you mean by product hunt push in the afternoon though? You mean sending a second email blast?

    1. 2

Yeah, either another email blast or Posting on social or groups

  9. 1

    Congrats on the launch!

I barely have any following on twitter (300 followers), does it still make sense to launch on product hunt? I assume that if I post there without having a following to help upvote, it would simply get lost in the sea of other projects.

Did you have an existing following already that were able to help upvote your PH post?

  12. 1

Any tips how to get traction?

  13. 1

Very interesting, I plan to launch o 6 February. I understand that 100 upvotes will be curcial!

  14. 1

This is good "From what I've learned, the key to winning the Product Hunt game is to get 100+ upvotes within the first 1 to 2 hours and then do another Product Hunt push to get another bump if you want to keep your spot"

Really great write up and very helpful! I am in the process of launching something similar in a few months time. What I have learned is you need to somehow send traffic to your PH launch throughout the week (at least 3-4 days) accounting for different time zones (West coast, east coast, London, EU, Japan/India). Focusing on a single day/time results in sudden dips.

  16. 1

There seem to be Product Hunt bots nowadays, just my guess but with some low-quality products it makes me wonder…

  17. 1

I know it's trivial but man network effects are brutal. You need a network to boost your network.

  18. 1

That sounds like a successful launch to me! I will definitely try and have consistent promotion throughout the day. I'm launching tonight at midnight! Any support is more than welcome, but I've been promoting my PH Upcoming page and will be sharing a recap of my experience as a solo indie app maker (https://bit.ly/3vl76Es).

    1. 2

      subscribed looking forward

  19. 1

taboo question but anyone experiment with paid upvotes on PH?

    1. 1

No its against their policy but doesn't mean people don't do it
