My product idea was way too big - so I broke it down and came up with a completely different one

But what was the original "complex" idea?

      🤫

It's still part of my long-term strategy, so I don't want to share any details right now.

Soon to be freelancer here, absolutely great product idea! Why do you think it didn't get more traction on PH? Also, How do you plan to market this?

    1. 2

      Thank you! 🙏

I accidentally launched it on PH on a Saturday (another story 🙈). I also had to rename it a few days after the launch due to potential trademark issues in the EU (its original name was FreelanceOne 😢 ). Both might have been reasons. But I don't know for sure.

LanceID currently has about 120 users. The next is to end the beta and enable the subscriptions to see if the pricing is ok.

Regarding marketing: I want to post on HN and Reddit. Latter will be hard because all Freelance(r) subreddits prohibit marketing your SaaS. So I have to be careful. But a lot is going on on Reddit.

And then, of course: SEO. I'm a rookie in that space. So I have to learn a lot.

120 users is a really good start. Good luck!

Nice idea! Did you validate your idea before building it and how exactly?

    1. 2

No, I did not. I've been a freelancer since 2010 and know that issue very well. So it seemed obvious to build such a solution.

I'm an iOS developer and had no experience in building a SaaS. That's why I chose RoR to move quickly. I hammered it down to the minimum, taking two months to build. I think that's ok for an MVP.

Got it, good luck with it, man!

    Hey @FlorianMielke,

LanceID seems to be a truly smart idea:

    • relatively simple to build
    • solves a true and easy to understand problem (I freelanced for a short period and know the issue with availability)
    • inexpensive to run in production
    • efficient to market as it makes use of network effects

What are your experiences to date regarding these aspects?

You gained a follower. I'm curious about what's coming.

    Greetings from Ulm to Hanover!

Thanks, Alexander, and greetings back to Ulm! 👋

      1. Yes, it took two months to build. An experienced SaaS developer would be able to built it faster.
      2. I think that all freelancers experience this problem. Now I have to spread it into the world, so all freelancers notice that there is a solution available.
      3. Absolutely. My current monthly costs are around $14. I use Render.com. Due to my lack of SaaS experience, there might be a cheaper solution, but with Render, I was able to move quickly.
      4. I think LanceID currently is too small to gain this effect. But I hope that this will change in the future.

I'm not a freelancer, but I'm commenting just to say that I really like your approach and what you've done with the product so far. Keep it up!

Thank you very much. I'll keep pushing it forward. 🙏

No, I didn't. I've been a consultant beginning around 2010 and know that issue well indeed. So it appeared glaringly evident to construct such an answer.

I'm an iOS engineer and had no involvement with building a SaaS. That is the reason I picked RoR to rapidly move. I pounded it down to the base, requiring two months to construct. I feel that is acceptable for a MVP. https://houseofhuda.com/
