My side project, Domain Drain, has just got it's first three users. What's next?
I've just promoted https://www.domaindrain.com with a "Show HN:" https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26365611
Unlike my last two side projects, which received no interest, I've already received three form submissions, from people wanting to list their domain names.
There are dozen things which I could improve about the site, including:
- Automating domain-ownership proof (currently manual emails and dig).
- Promoting elsewhere, perhaps with paid google/linked-in ads.
- Checking and improving style/CSS.
- Registering a separate legal company so that PayPal displays Domain Drain rather than Barricane Technology.
What is important now?
P.S. The second user has just completed their proof of domain ownership and their pocketscarves.com domain is now listed.
That is a great idea... I lost so many domains by letting them go ... I tried selling a few but no responses at all... (go daddy... ).
Would be interesting to be able to subscribe to new listings with keywords ... I would be interested in subscribing to drum.com or edrum.com for example... I would not want to be subscribed to everything new but who knows, some may be...
A lot of devs on twitter... maybe start following famous devs and start an auto tweet of the new domains and tweets as the go down in price... ? I think your market is definitely the developer community as you state on the website...
The drain thing is a little cheezy though... That was a turn off for me but as a proof it's great...

I think a wildcard or regex filter for subscriptions could be good.
Yes, the drain is deliberately cheesy. It's a hook by which the site can be remembered. listofdomainsforsale35.com wouldn't have this effect.
If this gets established, I expect I'll remove the animation.
Saw you mention this on another thread. One thing that could be very useful is to allow people set up a reminder email when a specific domain hits a specific price. Or maybe even allow pre-purchase at a given price, so if someone else buys it at a higher price then tough, but as soon as it hits my max the sale executes and I get the domain.
