My Spreadsheet with 21 Projects over 10 Years totalling 37k

I remember being super inspired a few years ago when Josh Pigford posted his spreadsheet of 50+ projects/businesses. Most of them were utter failures, but now he owns Baremetrics, so there's that.

Anyway, I took his Twitter challenge and went back through the archives. Here are my 21 side projects I've worked on over the past 10 years. Most of them were flops, but I guess I made 37k on them all combined. Taken a few down, but many are still online.

Is it bad that I still want to return to half of these and finish them up?

Somehow it is inspiring and demotivating at the same time 🤔

Hah! I feel the same way looking at it myself!

    Very inspiring. Thanks for sharing

Very cool! I started my own spreadsheet but I only have 2 projects on it so far. :)

You earned the most on WP theme because you built something for an existing product that already has a huge audience.

This is a great idea and good to see I'm not the only one with a list of unsuccessful ideas!

    That's an interesting list.

I find https://boxedupfun.com/ the most interesting, 8 years ago and it still have applicable potential IMHO, there are many ways to expend on it and way to monetise it and promote it... and while simple it doesn't look super dated...

It seems like you have some skill, potential, and can execute. These are rare.

I wonder if you would do better if instead of spreading yourself thin around so many ideas, to spend some time to think about a single grand idea that you like, and focus on just one thing.

This might seem like a high risk proposition, but than if you could come up with 30k on a wordpress theme, imagine what you could come up with if you actually dedicated yourself to one thing.

You've got your scrimmages out of the way, time to prepare to fight a real battle.

Thanks, I am well aware of my shortcoming of losing focus too quickly. Trying to focus down.

Yeah, lucky is a great way to say it! I had to make a sports team website at an agency I was at and said to my boss "We can use WordPress for this, there are bound to be 10 sports team themes available to choose from". When I started looking, I was surprised to not really find what I was looking for!

I had some of the same thoughts myself gathering the data for this spreadsheet. WordPress is still a force, so it made me think I need to explore some of those related ideas again. That said, WordPress themes have changed significantly since then. Most people don't want a specific theme for a single purpose, most people choose a them that is generic in nature and can accomplish anything. Those themes have heavy competition and are extremely time consuming to make.
