Hello Indie Hackers!
I've been sharing my journey (mainly on Twitter and on Reddit) on how I created http://wisio.app, an AI powered writing assistant for scientific writing. Now, I'm going to start sharing here as well, if you don't mind <3.
So far, I have ~1000 users on my waitlist, 200 active users on the platform, and 2 paying users (I opened the payment link 2 days ago). So I can say my product has value and I'm able to scale. All of this in just 4 months!
Now, my partner and I are going to invest in a part time fellow developer to fully develop the missing features so we can run A MASSIVE MARKETING CAMPAIGN. The aim is to get at least 100 paying users on a early bird price before rising up.
All of this seems unreal and scaring, but I've never been so excited and certain that something that came out of my head would actually work.
Here's are some key lessons on this phase so far:
Release as soon as possible. Don't hold it back, even if it's not entirely ready, people might find value;
Open for payments from the get go. Only in two days people already paid for my product. If I had open for payments earlier, more people would've paid.
Observability and Analytics are key. It's a portal inside you app. I had a problem on my register process that went unnoticed for 7 days, freezing my new users rate and my revenue. OBSERVE AND ANALYZE EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME.
And then a question. I still have a free plan, but I'm questioning myself if I should just offer a paid plan. What do you guys think?
Cheers!
Congrats! These are good tips too. Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome!
That's fantastic, how did you get the initial 1,000?
Mainly reddit, twitter and my close network. I'm academic, so I understand the channels we can reach out to other fellow academics.
It depends about your strategy. Having a free trial will attract users who might not pay in the short-term but with an efficient email marketing system, you could convert those users into paying clients in the medium/long term.
